@n00b do you have experience with denim as heavy as the 25oz? If not, i would stick with the 21 oz so your system isnt too shocken by the heavyweight of the xhs.

Otherwise, the rest is personal preference.

@n00b I would agree that the 21OZ denim should definitely be your Iron Heart "Gateway" pair. Once their broken in, which is pretty easy, you won't believe that a pair of jeans could be that comfortable. They've been likened to sweatpants or pajamas.

@n00b The 21oz may be more practical (and perhaps a bit easier to get the sizing right), but the XHS/XHSib is more fun in my opinion.

Agree with the suggestions of 21oz for your first pair. Depending on where you live, the 21oz can be worn for at least 3 seasons and possibly more depending on how hot it gets in your area and how heat tolerant you are.

25oz. will definitely be much warmer and you will get less wear time if you live in a warm or humid climate.

@CuseMM you could also try a 633 from Self Edge. 634 top-block but tapered. I personally have both and prefer the 888, though.

                  Thanks very much everyone.

                  I'll get the 21oz. 🙂

Just to answer some questions, I'm from hot and humid Singapore. But I'll only be wearing the jeans in air-conditioned environment 90% of the time. My only experience with selvedge jeans are Samurais and the heaviest I think is 19oz.

                  Thanks again.

I just received a pair of 17 oz straight legs in 34" waist. very tight. I suppose I could return them for a 35"..but I am informed that Iron Heart sanforized jeans stretch another 1 inch with time and wear...if that's the case..should I just keep the 34"s and wait till they do indeed stretch another inch?

@mcgrail I think the 17N might stretch a little less that some of the others — I think the only IH I've gotten a full inch out of would be 21oz. If they're very tight right now, a size up could be a good idea. Definitely see what some other people say, though!

All denim stretches, no matter what the brand. How much it stretches is a function of how it is woven. If you take a look at the product pages for the 17N denim you will see that there is a bullet that says:

                                  • The waist will stretch out approximately one inch with wear

And I got an inch of stretch out of my 17's.

I work in construction and end up covered in dyes, silicones etc most days so wearing Iron Heart for work is out of the question really, but it’s really starting to bother me how quick I burn through workwear branded jogging bottoms, dickies/scruffs etc. I spend most of my time on roofs so Snickers type work pants with multiple pockets tend to limit my movement and are out of the question too.
So… my question is.. does anyone know of any jeans that I can wear for work what aren’t going to break the bank or die on me in the space of two months? I guess the obvious answer would be Levi’s but thought I’d post this in case anyone knows something I don’t!
