@don_pipone it’s coming along — definitely a bit of a learning curve with it, for sure. So far I’ve been able to pull decent-ish shots, but there’s a ways to go.
The biggest thing has been dialing the grind size and getting the pressure right. The shots I’ve been pulling haven’t had enough resistance, so they’ve come out really sour. I need to keep moving a click or two down until it works out. Obv temp affects this too, so I need to figure that out.
What’s hilarious is how much stuff online varies. One early suggestion was that I use 5 clicks on the Comandante (this is before I got the Red Clix upgrade), and I friggin swear I was grinding the beans for 10 minutes haha. I was like “shit I made a mistake by buying this thing — I’m not gonna be able to do this every day.” Once I tried to pull the shot with a grind that fine though, seeing that the arms on the Robot were literally immovable, I realized I needed to go a lot coarser. Things got better after that
All in all I’m really digging it though. It’s great how fast it is, really just takes a couple minutes for the kettle to heat up and for me to grind the beans, cleanup is basically nothing, and I don’t have to worry about some thing that cost a couple thousand bucks getting ruined by the wrong water or whatever (one big thing that gave me pause about buying an espresso machine, though I’d love to have one someday).
Lastly, I do think I’m gonna get a J Ultra grinder and save the Comandante for pour over.
@68degreesorless thanks man! The short sleeve version looks like it fits a bit snugger with fairly short sleeves, which are both features I dig. I recently bought a 2-pack of the new style medium weight tees from SE and I think they might be my favorite t-shirts I’ve owned. Or at least in the heavier category.
@flannel-slut I love that shirt you posted a few back. Is that a newer or older buy? Didn’t see it come up when I googled.
Has anyone on here picked up one of the Cotton Project tees? Mighty pricy, but I love the concept. I’ve seen and felt the black (more like charcoal really) one at SE and it’s pretty rad, but I’d love to know how they fade. It’s black bean die, so I’m guessing the organic nature of it would make it pretty fade-prone. If anybody’s got experience, please lmk.
Tried a search but nothing came up — anyone on here ever mess with a Cafelat Robot? I ordered one and am expecting delivery today. I’ve always been interested in espresso machines but balked at the price of entry for getting something decent (that’s guitar money). The manual game seems fun and has a lot less to worry about, so I took the dive. Also have a Red Clix on the way for my Comandante.
@goosehd thanks man! Wow, thought these were almost a lost cause. Hell yeah.
I'd imagine probably a lot less — I know central air in general is a whole lot rarer. Hopefully they do have some designated spaces.
I remember when I'd moved to Austin from NYC, I went back after a while for a visit during the summer and was like JFC IT'S SO HOT EVERYWHERE. Predominantly window units, oy — amazing how quickly I'd gotten used to Texas air conditioning
. Conversely, I'd also become much more of a wuss about the cold, haha. Anyway, I'm guessing that NY summer heat is a lot like what's going on in Europe. Doesn't sound fun.
Haha I just imagine various people in Gosport answering forum posts, being like “SOMEBODY MAKE A BLOODY WIDGET!”
Glad y’all added this, super awesome
