Try weighted squats and deadlifts. Strengthening your lower back - provided you do it safely and sustainably, see a strength PT if necessary - is a great preventative. I read a study somewhere about strength athletes having lower levels of back injury than the general population, which sounds counterintuitive until you realise that most of what these guys do all day is strengthen their lower backs.

@EdH Can’t upvote this enough…I’ve lifted weights pretty steady since my mid teen’s and for the most part have been relatively injury free.
