@WhiskeySandwich thanks man! Nope, just a local gym near my house. I like it a lot because it’s all old people so every machine or bench is always open
-
@Choko nice work

-
@Choko Holy shit!!! Back to @northsouthdenimguy 's post though - what biscuits (cookies) give you those guns?
-
I was recently looking at old photos and how I have changed from a 280lbs power lifting static monster in my 20s, switching to body builder type workouts and my best shape 240lbs in my 30s and then to a more healthy 200lbs from more training functional lifts currently at nearly 50.
My goals may change but will always enjoy throwing weight around.

Oatmeal creams pie by the dozen
But on a serious note about to spend the next 30 minutes or so with my physical therapist/massage therapist to work on my bicep tendinitis on my left arm. whatever I’m doing I’m probably doing incorrectly

-
@northsouthdenimguy I had bicep tendinitis recently and it was a bitch. I switched to supported single dumbbell curls over the back of my upright bench, bout 80 degrees, spammed lightweight side laying rotator cuff lifts and got rid of it after a month or so. Worked for me, everyone is different tho. Good luck with it man

Interesting I’ll have to look at that doing that
After my first session last week, I felt 100 times better. He really got after it today, though. Hoping it will feel even better.
I’m going to use my massage gun lightly this evening, working from my shoulder down through my bicep and forearm, and then put the TENS machine and cold pack after I’m done…

OK, I think Giles “might” even approve of these.
Looks tasty

@jdwaid I loved that gym. The atmosphere and comradery between the young and older experienced lifters was brilliant. Closed down many years ago unfortunately.

@1WayTrip reminds me of the early 90's Dorian Yates training videos out of temple gym. They don't make em like they used to.

Anybody here using red light therapy?
Just picked up a Hooga ULTRA360 red light therapy panel. I originally bought it mostly for the red light side and the supposed skin benefits because apparently my face needs all the help it can get.

Then I realized the near-infrared side penetrates deeper and can also be used for muscle/tendon recovery and rehab, so that may end up being just as useful.

Since I'm a rock climber I usually workout with my own bodyweight, but my armwrestling curiosity has led me to lifting some weights. I was surprised that I could strict curl (back against a wall) 6x48kg with an EZ curl bar. The bouldering gym doesn't really provide more plates. I'd be very happy if I strict curled a 60kg (75% of my body weight) one rep max. But I suppose that will take some time and effort.
-
@RobeOfTheMagi that’s nice going, especially seeing as you have never trained it before

I am a bit too long in the tooth to try a max on anything these days apart from grip. I am totally injury free for the first time in a long time so tread carefully.

@1WayTrip cheers mate!

Any good morning pre-workout routines to get you going at the gym?
I need an hour from the alarm going off to walking out the door to the gym for my body to straighten out and wake up. I've usually downed a cup of coffee and some water by then. Probably some Creatine and beet root powder extract (natural producer of nitric oxide.) I'm wary of pre-workout supplements.
Would love to hear if anyone has any tips on how they get going before the gym. No matter if it's coffee, bananas, sudoku or meditation. What are you doing?
-
@Pointman what worries you about pre workout supplements if I may ask? There are some very good ones out there and definitely some not very good ones.
-
@Pointman strong black coffee loaded with honey then a 10min brisk walk to the gym. No matter what the weather my car stays at home.
By the time I get there body and mind are ready to rumble.
-
@yannis I suppose I'm more wary of stimulant pre workouts and what's in them than non-stim. I could be open to taking one but the entire supplement world is unregulated and has seen plenty of problems, including with contaminants. I suppose it just feels a bit like the wild west and I'd like to be certain of what I'm consuming and what it may or may not contribute to my health.
