      IHSH-389-IND - 12oz Dobby Cloth CPO Shirt - Indigo

Our western-style pocketed CPO shirt, made from a 12oz dobby loom woven cloth with Sashiko thread stitching. Dating back to the 17th century, Sashiko is a traditional form of Japanese folk embroidery used for both decorative and functional reinforcement of fabrics. With a translation meaning “little stabs”, the technique involves a running stitch which creates aesthetically pleasing geometric patterns in a piece of cloth, simultaneously reinforcing the weave for added durability. When intertwined with our heavyweight dobby cloth, the result is an incredibly intricate weave with a deeply textured, yet soft and pliable hand. A fabric full of character, the warp threads are indigo rope dyed - meaning that the colour will fade with wear and washing - whilst the weft yarns and Sashiko thread are cheese and reactive dyed respectively and won’t fade.

No, there is no sample I am afraid - hence the mock up in the OP. There may be someone coming to check out the work shirt version for sizing tomorrow, though

@alex can you say more about the difference, if any, between sashiko and sashiko “style?” Is this not true sashiko, whatever that is?

No, it's not true sashiko as you say.

From memory, Haraki said that sashiko to him is handstitched (this is machine) and was typically done to add decoration or to do repair work where as this is just part of the fabric. Potentially him being a pedant, potentially him finding a way to justify him releasing a 'sashiko' fabric despite the fact he's previously said he does not like sashiko nor wanted to ever make one

It doesn’t need to be shashiko 🙂

Beyond being an industrial weaving process here, shashiko tends to have a contrasting thread color in the embroidering I think?

The pictures don’t recall shashiko to me, just a really beautiful textured fabric.

White or red shashiko on this fabric could be a really cool project for someone.

                                    Think it, be it.

Either way I’ve asked about sashiko before and something like this is what I had in mind. It’s a beautiful shirt. Seems to be well developed andexecuted. The only question now is work or cpo.

Very curious to see the fades since the weft and sashiko are non-fading, yet the warp will fade alone. Don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that ever. Should definitely enhance the texture of the colors.
