More of a, what have you been doing with your past couple weekends? My old man used to have his own landscaping business and have helped him w a number of entry way/deck jobs over the years. We’ve been mulling it over for a little bit now but have been wanting to upgrade my side entry way from its original stone cast stair casing to a small deck. It’s been slow moving but genuinely cherishing the time spent w my pops tackling this project.

Weekend 1
Sawed off the cast iron rails, poured some cement for the foundation and started the frame work for the platform of the deck

Weekend 2
Realized we needed to re-route the fucking drain so we got a connector to snake the gutter out the opposite end of the breezeway entry (this took a lot longer than anticipated and worse, required an additional trip to Lowe’s ️ but I digress), finished off the rest of the platform frame work and laid down the composite boards.

Weekend 3 TBD but looking like next weekend where we’ll finish off the stairs. Hopefully

Building a very small deck for my entry way and needed a little bit of lumber. I know better than to go to Lowe’s for this but I have a location near my house and thought I could make do being a small project. The collection of damaged and warped boards was mind boggling… after over an hour of sifting through a pile of misfits and then being told they had “plastic?!?” joist hangers in stock (somehow they were out of galvanized steel hangers ) I got the fuck out of there and went to an independent lumber dealer. Over an hour drive away but quality product and there was a grizzly 70 year old with 3 lifetimes of knowledge working there that I could have kissed.

@mclaincausey well said and agreed on all fronts. I think a share of the blame falls on Beth Page as well and the PGA. Backing the sale of some fizzy drink that comes w a floating, SQUEAKY rubber ducky? Rallying crowds via intercoms falling short of ballgame organ music? Was looking for some mindless nonsense to escape to this weekend. Watched 28 years later and was surprised at how much I enjoyed the story considering the zombie/apocalyptic genre is getting pretty overdone. Witten w a lot of heart and Ralph Fiennes was great per usual. Definitely looking forward to the second installment.
