IHP-FILTHY - Filthy Mike Tribute Patch

In January 2023, the Iron Heart community lost our dear friend, Mike Ogurchak, affectionately known as “Filthy”. More than just a loyal customer, Mike was a beloved forum personality, touching the hearts of the many friends he made worldwide through his kindness and extraordinary generosity. In memory of Filthy, we’ve released these special tribute patches, designed in collaboration with fellow forum user, Endo. Available in two unique designs, all proceeds from the sale of these patches will be added to the fund established to provide ongoing support for Mike’s mother, whom he lived with and cared for.

IHV-51-BRN - 12oz Duck N1 Deck Vest - Brown

Our N1 vest is based on the classic deck jacket of the same name, as issued to US Navy servicemen during the 1940s. This version is constructed from tough 12oz Japanese duck canvas and lined with acrylic boa fleece, chosen in place of a wool lining because it allows for washing without shrinkage. Finished in a rich combination of brown and charcoal, this fabric stands apart from others in the lineup, thanks to an intricate dyeing process. First, the woven fabric is top-dyed a rustic brown using a direct dye technique. Next, it’s lightly overdyed to impart a black hue, then immediately washed to disperse and diminish the intensity of the black dye. The result is a beautifully aged, charred effect that evokes the rugged charm of a hard-worn vintage garment—perfectly suited to the heritage styling of our N1 vest.

Unlike our upcycled “Swatch” bags, which are created from mixed-fabric offcuts saved from our hemming process, the Project RE:LOVE “Solo” bag uses the same patchwork pattern but with denim from a single pair of pre-worn Iron Heart jeans.

Each RE:LOVE bag is handmade in Gosport, England, using the same vintage machines we rely on daily: Union Special for chain stitching, Singer darner and flat stitcher for reinforcement, and a 5-thread overlocker set to Iron Heart Japan specs. Straps are triple-stitched and the opening is secured with heavy-duty Iron Heart copper snaps for strength and longevity.
