Ask Giles and/or Alex Anything

Ah rats, I definitely prefer UPS. Certainly not a big deal, though.
-
@Alex Please keep DPD within the UK, they are the best up here in Scotland...
Although I couldn't imagine you guys ever using Evri

@Twistlock
it’s DHL express, they only deliver on Saturdays if you pay extra for it. In Germany it’s an extra of 12€ for delivery saturdays.

DHL almost always delivers to my apartment successfully while UPS consistently delivers stuff to the building next door where the concierge happily accepts my packages but then wont let me claim them from him, he sends it back to UPS and it gets routed to a pickup point, looking forward to trying out DHL on my next order!
-
I’m sure it’ll be fine! DHL just doesn’t have any local presence in my town, as far as I know. They use contractors to deliver, I think. The last time I I had something shipped by them, a random guy in a Toyota Corolla handed me my package when I strolled down the sidewalk with my dog, from a location that wasn’t my house. I barely even identified myself.

@sabergirl my experience with DHL has been similar. A courier literally drives it 3 hours to Springfield from St Louis on day of expected delivery. Sometimes they make it by 7pm…sometimes they don’t. On the plus side, the item has always arrived so that’s good.
-
Is there a choice for UPS for a fee at checkout? All of my UPS packages get delivered to the local UPS store awaiting my pickup so not laying out on my porch all day for the porch pirates. DHL has been an issue for me with having deliveries routed elsewhere or for signatures. FedEx is hard enough to coordinate and DHL is another level above them for me or my area.. It appears I’m in the minority.

Just got a package from iron heart via DHL to the states yeaterday. Everything was perfect for me and same delivery time as UPS.
-
@Alex I prefer DHL to UPS Newark warehouse purgatory

Our local DHL is pretty damn good and UPS can be hit or miss…they are always coming up with delayed by weather (perfectly sunny, warm, not even a chance of anything), incorrect address (bullshit), or delivery attempted (I work from home).
DHL used to phone me ahead of time and ask when I was going to be home and if I wasn’t if we would coordinate to find a spot where he could hand it off to me. Once they phoned and I was at my daughter’s golf lesson and he said he was in the area. I met him at the club house parking lot

He’s one of the few drivers that I would buy a bottle of rum or beer for during the holidays. That guys was f’n awesome. His replacement is good, but no one will ever top that guy. I should phone him up and ask if he will start doing runs in our area again

Wanted to jump in with some (hopefully) useful information. We review our supplier offerings annually, with one of if not the most important of those being our courier partner. In order to obtain competitive rates, we need to have one international courier. Our cost of shipping, while it is obviously important, is not top of the decision-making list. At the very top of our decision, and all supplier decisions, is the added value to our customers. We made the decision this year, after the successful launch of our new website, to do a more in depth review of our courier offering and found that DHL seemed to have a much more user friendly, intuitive user experience, while maintaining a trustworthy, reliable service. After trialling them for a month, and reaching out to everyone who received a DHL package during that time (the feedback for DHL was very positive), we decided to make the move permanent.
There are always going to be wins and losses for certain areas and individual preferences when it comes to couriers, such is the nature of the industry, but we do believe at this time that DHL will be an improved partner.
We will continue to review the offerings annually and are never too proud as a company to revert if we feel something isnt working.
DHL's On Demand Delivery is the industry leader for international high value packages, if you have not used it, I would urge you to take a look during your next shipment. It is frictionless, free of charge and allows you to do many things that the UPS My Choice didnt without a fee. Changing addresses for free within the same area, signing to release shipment when in transit and also has the option to hold an item at one of their many access points for free, for a longer period than most other couriers.
I am looking forward to hopefully seeing an improvement to the vast majority's shipping experience but as always, we are open to feedback and comments.
