The Mrs. makes cookies once a year for Santa Clause and had left over dough for a second batch. Its a sweet n salty tooth paradise… crumbled up potato chips, pretzel and dark chocolate chips with pieces of chopped heath bar and pecans

Yes I think it is a common winter dish in the Netherlands too. In some areas the potatoes are cooked together with tha kale and each region seems to have it's typical sausages. I assume @Daniel-San or @endo know much more about the tradition then me.

The tradition here is to make a good walk ( sometimes a few hours) with a good amount of beer and shots ( like Jägermeister or similar) before you return and a have the Dinner .

Yes we did that once with friends from Luneburg, kids (and beer) were carried in 'Bollerwagen' and the adults were throwing balls while walking.
