@Giles If you go to the start page of IHSH-33od,you'll see the story of how the shirt came to be(Happy Accident) back on March of 2015. I don't think it's the shirt in question, but a cool flashback nonetheless. Sorry for not providing the direct link, but it comes right up if you search on it.

That shirt was a pretty big deal back then, not unlike some recent items, albeit on a much smaller scale. I had that shirt and had put IH patches on it,but it ended up being a weight gain sale. 2015 seems like a lifetime ago.

Is there any additional information about the 19oz indigo/grey denim used for the 140 jacket? I have tried searching for other indigo/grey denims too and have not found one on here. Was the denim used to only make the 140? From what I remember there isn't any more of it left either. I'm just super curious about it and any info would be rad to learn.

Size difference between Okayama and American/Euro retailers

I’ve recently purchased a Samurai shirt in xxl from Self Edge and saw the same shirt along with some different colors on the Okayama site. But the xxl on the Okayama site is almost 3inches smaller around the chest. I’ve also noticed the same with other brands on the Okayama site. Do these companies size differently for different markets? Possibly measure differently?

@edgarallanpoe Those companies do not size differently for different markets and the sizing issue you see is between the retailers and how they measure.

I moved your question to here.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think that different companies style/pattern there garments differently. For instance,Indigofera’s shirts are a much fuller/generous cut and I wear a Large and sometimes a Medium in their clothes, whereas as Iron Heart has a relatively slimmer more fitted cut to their patterns and I wear an XXL and on occasionally even an XXXL.

@Jett129 I may have misunderstood the question, but I interpreted it as the same manufacturer at different retailers having different measurements. Not different manufacturers.

@edgarallanpoe did I understand your question correctly?

I was thinking that the answer to his question is that manufacturers design/style/fit/pattern their garments based on the general physiques of the population that they design their clothing for. Using Indigofera and Iron Heart as examples of the differences between designing clothes for people living in Sweden and Japan.

@goosehd you are correct. Same make, same exact shirt, same size, wildly different measurements. But the thing that has me confused is that there really isn’t any other way to measure the chest other than the pit to pit way.

I’m well aware that different companies size their clothes to best fit their consumers. I also happen to like Indigofera for the exact same reason the other poster does. They have generous cuts that fit me quite well.

But I am referring to measurement difference between two retailers on the exact same shirt and size.

Here is what I'm talking about... As you can see, Okayama has a XXL at 45.3 in in chest and Self Edge has the exact same shirt in XXL and it's 50 inches in chest. That's a 5 inch difference and they both use the pit to pit method. I bought the shirt from Self Edge and it measures at 50 inches. 5 inches is a huge difference that I'm not sure can be explained by different measuring techniques.

@edgarallanpoe I think that Selfedge has a slightly different measuring procedure than IH,so sometimes there’s a slight difference between the two measurements, and Selfedge tells you how they measure, but never a 5 inch difference. That’s pretty crazy.

I’ve noticed that the measurements from places like Okayama and Denimio can indeed be a little different, so when I’ve bought stuff from there, I’ve tried to find charts at a couple other places that carry the same product so that I can do sort of an average if you will. It’s generally worked out fine — I think I had to send something back once.

@Jett129 this is about right. When I get saturdaytypefever clothes greaded/resized, the person who makes the patterns, used to work for a main retailer, and she would ask if I wanted them graded for 'general western market'.

I find denimio and Okayama denim’s measurements to be wildly unreliable. If in doubt, look for other measurements and kind of split the difference. Self edge isn’t always super reliable, either, though better. If it’s an IH product, I always rely on IHUK publishing the best measurements. For other stuff, it’s best to look around at what’s out there, and use your best judgement.
