@bialosky those look sick!!! I love the washed vintage 10 year looking fades a lot. I understand wanting high contrast fades, but as @Daniel-San said, indigo/black denim is the way to go.

just a note, mine just arrived, beatiful pair, there is a difference in this run from product page - the rivets are copper (in my case, a plus!)

Hi @prpx, thanks for letting us know and apologise for missing the difference, I have double-checked all the others here, and they are the same as yours. It looks like they are now adding the hardware (rivets) after the dyeing process, so we will be updating the photos on the website and forum.

That’s a shame. I liked the patina on the hardware after dying.

Does this mean the dying is done prior to construction as opposed to just dying existing indigo models? Are the buttons the same? Wonder if this will affect sizing.

So the method of dying was changed, from sulphur to direct dying, and evidently direct dying does not have the same oxidative impact on the hardware as the sulphur dying did.

First of all, I am not sure why we were not told, and therefore did not tell you guys, but that is beyond my control.

What is not, beyond my control is how none of the crew here handling the jeans coming in managed to spot the change and query it, and for that we are sorry guys. New copy is being drafted and product pages will be updated shortly. We still do have some stock of the original dying technique, and will work out how to handle the sale of these in due course. If you particularly want a pair of these, email shop@ironheart.co.uk to see if your tag size is in stock.

The use of sulphur dye has been under threat due to it's pollution and the other environmental concerns. For dyeing fabric, like the IHSH-235-BLK for eg, we use firm filtration devices that prevent harmful particles entering the watercourse. For overdyeing, however, there have been some known issues for a while and that is why we have been investigating other options.

We currently overdye in two locations (factories), heavyweight items (sewn in Kojima) go to a dyeing factory in Kojima. Lightweight items like 14 oz (sewn in Fukuyama) go to a factory in Fukuyama. The factory in Kojima has stopped using sulphur for overdying, and so all future heavyweight OD goods will no longer be dyed in the same way as before. For now, the factory in Fukuyama will continue to use the sulphur dye, but we expect this to change in the medium term future too, and at that point lightweight denim will move to the new OD method.

Thanks for the clarification, @Alex. Does the different dye method just interact differently with the rivets? Is the direct-dyeing still taking place after construction?

Just reinforces why I won’t wear any other brand of jeans, beyond their exceptional quality.

I love the fact that you guys care about the peripheral impact of manufacturing.

For anyone who loves this model, I have the original production sample in near mint condition which I will be bringing to the party this weekend to auction for the @Filthy2123ozjunkie fund.

Tag size I think is 32……about 8 inches too small for my “well fed lad” proportions.

Made in England, clothed in Japan, fed in America and drunk in Belgium !
