Looking to purchase a new pair of everyday hiking shoes. Anyone have cool or unique suggestions i may not have come across on the internet?

    a bit of backstory:
I recently purchased a pair of Vans Ultrarange MTE and loved them out of the box. They are lined with Primaloft so they get a bit warm, but I had to send them back. When I would hike with them (for a  mile or more), the insulation would grab my sock and bunch it under my toes continuously and my feet would go numb. It was painful and incredibly annoying.

My leading candidate thus far is the Danner 2650 in full grain leather.

    I have also considered:
    Vans/Japanese collaboration
New Balance Horween collection. (sold out, really expensive on eBay).
    Merrell Nova and Moab
    Keen sneaker variations
Lem's (not a fan of the toe box design)
    Altra (same)
    many others…

    anyone have obscure/fun suggestions?

I use some North Face hiking sneakers that I got before our trip.  They are waterproof which would be great for your area though that feature became obsolete once I got to the Southwest. They are comfortable, fit well and never bothered my feet.  Being sneakers they are very versatile.  If you want ankle stability a boot would be better.  They have some sneaker style hiking boots on their site.

Also check out the Outlet section on the REI site if you haven’t.  There should be some good deals on TNF, Merrel, Keen etc.  But I’m sure like the rest of us you have homed your deal finding skills to perfection.  😉

          Heya Jeff!

I've been using a pair of Ridgemont Monty Hi the most:

          https://ridgemontoutfitters.com/collections/monty-hi-mens/products/monty-hi-oiled-suede-brown-orange

I also did one hike with the Moonstar all-weather slip-on boot:

          https://rivetandhide.com/moonstar-all-weather-slip-on-boot-khaki.html

I typically go on 4-6 mile hikes in southern California, FWIW.

          Blanket-line all the things!!!

The Timberland Euro Hikers are pretty cool as are the peak to pavement hikers by Forsake.

thanks @Matt North face is in the realm of possibility. I have been eyeing the new Vectiv releases, and they are intriguing. REI outlet has been looked into (i should look again), as well as Backcountry, moosejaw, campsaver, public lands, etc. outdoor sites that probably all ship from the same warehouse.

I've also looked into Hoka, but i wish they would get rid of the giant frickin logo.

I 100% swear by Scarpa Mojitos, they are brilliant trail boots and the most comfortable footwear I have ever used:

I have just ordered a pair of these.

I use their Canyon Guides as my go-to wading boots, worn over neoprene booties and have been majorly impressed with them, so thought I'd give the hikers a go.

Thanks @Paul9221 and @Jett129 I should have specified I'm looking for a low top. Paul I really like that Ridgeline low, I'm a sucker for a retro style.

I have a pair of Solomon X3 mid that i wear when hiking gets at all serious and they are perfect. but I balk at wearing them as a daily sneaker as they are a bit aggressive.

I hadn't hear of forsake Arthur, and those are cool options too.

I have a pair of these for use if I am going serious walking.  Then I'm more interested in how many times I don't fall over, not the size of the logo  🙂 🙂

Edit: Now you throw low-top into the equation 🙂

Love my Danner 2650 good choice. Xero has good options too if you like more of a “barefoot” experience.

Thanks @Giles I have looked at Scarpa many times after seeing them on you. They end up at Sierra trading quite often (a discount outdoors store), along with Asolo brand which have a similar approach shoe aesthetic. Those Hoka hikers have a tonal logo so it's not as bad as the giant white logo. I'm just being a bitch about it anyhow, as my giant New Balance "N" on a lot of my shoes contradicts my gripe.

@68degreesorless thanks for the doubledown on the Danner. top of the list

Yeah, I never pay full price for the Scarpa's

Everyone's feet and gait are different, so the best advice IMO is to take what you've learned through your research and query here, and to go somewhere that carries the brands you like and try them on.

I would throw Oboz out of Boseman, MT into the mix. I have some hiking boots from them that are unmatched for hiking comfort for my feet. I would not even know about the brand if I hadn't gone to REI and tried on multiple options.

They carry them and a bunch of other great brands at REI, so personally I would go there or Schuler or similar, and go nuts until you find the one @jordanscollected

                            Think it, be it.

If I didn't have a reflexive hatred of black shoes, I'd have bought a pair of these Naglev boots a long time ago, though i like the high tops better than the low.

Oh, yeah- I haven't tried their hiking boots, but I absolutely love Inov-8 trail running shoes (I've owned 6 pairs so far).

On a different topic, is there any way to be notified of ALL upcoming restocks?  Maybe a forum thread called "Restocks" in which the crew could post what will be restocked that week?

I ask because I just happened to notice that the IHSH-295-IB is going to restock tomorrow.  I stopped following that thread because I wasn't able to pick one up before they sold out, but am interested in picking one up when they restock.

Sure, I could've gone to the store page and asked to be notified of a restock, but I think it might work better in a forum format, so that I can make sure I'm available, card-in-hand, for the restock 😃

One idea, especially if the new platform supports tags, could be to tag restock posts and then have a dynamic forum topic that filters on that tag across product pages, or failing that, users could search on the tag (which I guess you kind of can do by the word "restock.")

                                          Think it, be it.
