I have a Cinelli Bootleg Mystic Rats single speed that i picket up quite a few years ago, which i really have enjoyed riding, but I'm losing patience with not having any gears. Would you guys recommend trying to get gears added to this, or starting afresh? Also, any idea of cost to add the gears approximately (I appreciate there is a large range of products, I wouldn't need anything too high tech)

If you could use the existing front chain ring and could just add a cassette in the rear, might be the most cost efficient way to go. Others can probably give you more detailed suggestions.

Could be tricky. You’ve got horizontal dropouts and chain alignment is complex. I’d suggest looking into an internal transmission hub by sturmey archer or shimano alfine.

My recommendation too.  That frame is designed for single gear…..

Keep your fixie and buy a new/secondhand geared version.

                        This x1000

The used market for parts is stupid in my area now. Even basic ass bikes with cheap components are flying off on the used market. I've been trying to pick up a used bike for a little over a year and EVERY time I reach out about one it is sold or pending etc. The local bike shops prices for a used complete have gone up a ton, but they just don't have any in stock. It's been crazy.

I'd say just sell it as it is and but a ballin' new (to you) bike, with the gears you need.

Thanks! She's pretty quick! I've been riding for about 5 years, and this is my first ever brand-new bike. My last one was used and treated me very well, but it was time for an upgrade.

I like the geometry of the frame. I somehow can't "yet" get used to disk brakes on a runner. But a beautiful bike for sure!

Is that because you've never used them? I can't go back to rim brakes after this. And frankly I'm not sure I can go back to mechanical shifting after having a bike with electronic shifting.

I am with you on discs in general. I haven't made use of electronic shifters, but hydraulic disc calipers and whatever actuation is in use in modern drivetrains are game-changers.

                                    Think it, be it.

Thanks! I can't speak to SRAM's functionality (although I've heard nothing but great things) but the Shimano Di2 shifting is out of this world. Coming from a very old Dura Ace groupset that was quirky and sometimes finicky, this shifts-when-I-tell-it-to system I have now is just delightful.

And I don't get a lot of rain here, but I've heard discs are without equal in wet conditions.

Which song does Greta remind you of?
