@Go-For-Chill Are you talking about the way Iron Heart measures all of their jeans and is in this video:

@Giles said in VIDEO - How To Measure Jeans and Pants - The Iron Heart Method:

@Go-For-Chill. Because the Iron Heart tutorial and the sizing charts corresponding to what the seller is posting so there is consistency across the board about sizing that minimizes mistakes. I have found that although thatbis the idea, some sellers still post incorrect measurements.

The reason it's in the marketplace is so that everyone is using the same method of measuring so that it minimizes variance and unhappy customers both from IH and from private marketplace sales.

        Thank you @yannis

Yeah @Go-For-Chill those videos are a great resource. It's good to know all the specifics ways that IH measures their stuff, but the waist technique is the most unique. I'll agree with @yannis that there are still some inconsistencies you can run into out there in the world, which I suspect boils down to whether or not someone pulls the waist super tight when they measure it, or simply lays it as flat as possible (which is what I do), or even just kinda half-asses the measuring. All that said, I think the IH method is the best for the brand because it's the in-house point of reference.

All of the answers make perfect sense. It might be nice to see “ the IH Way” measurement listed on the IH website. I know I’ve come to understand and use that measurement a lot since getting into IH.

@Go-For-Chill I don't know what you mean mate. All the measurements on IH's website are done with measuring the IH way. This is clearly stated on the product pages.

Are you saying that you think the waist measurement row in the sizing tables should literally say "Waist - measured the IH way"?

              Take the dive...

@Go-For-Chill we do say this above the chart:

The best way to determine the size you need is to find a similar item that fits you well, then measure the same way we do (see “How We Measure” tab) and compare with the measurements in the chart below.

There is a How to measure tutorial where a lovely lady with a British accent thoroughly explains how Iron heart measures.

I don't understand the question either. Every measurement we do everywhere, is done the Iron Heart way.

And we do it because it is the way the Japanese garment making industry does it. We did it some other random way in the early days and when we specced new products, they never turned out how we expected....

@Alex Apologies, I think I misunderstood the measurement instructions. I rewatched the video and it makes perfect sense now. My mistake

Curious, can anyone post some images of how they have repaired tears along the entrance/seam of the front pockets without replacing the entire pocket bags? My three month old 14oz OD’s have blown out both pocket bags along the stitched seam at the top of the pocket. Most repairs will likely leave some really obvious stitching along the front of the jeans. Curious how others have dealt with this.

I have to admit I was quite surprised how quickly these gave out. Maybe the OD process is rough on the lighter cotton?

@nrtphotos here’s pocket repairs by selfedge on 21oz. This area is usually the first to go on all my jeans, OD’ed or not. I doubt it’s an OD thing or quality thing. Seems more like how they fit and how you wear them.

@68degreesorless that’s very interesting, looks like they pulled the seam apart and just darned the original bag. It looks very clean.

Outgrew my beatle busters and am looking for a suitable replacement. What current cut of jeans fits closest to the old Beatle Buster fit?

@hangwithhuang the beatle buster was mid/high ish rise, and tapered. The closest options will be the 888 and 1955, though neither are exactly the same. The 555 is similar rise, but slimmer.

Doesn’t sound quite right to me @Alex. I think a Buster rerun is the only solution.

@68degreesorless pocket bag tears are my nemesis too. Look like they did a solid repair job. I'm impressed. Like @nrtphotos said, looks like they darned the torn part of the pocket bags. Wonder if they have to remove the whole pocket bag to do that??

I usually repair mine myself and just pull up the pocket bag to where its not shredded and resew the clean material to the pocket opening. My repairs are nowhere near as clean but I kind of like my home done repair look too.

I feel like I should know this but somehow I don’t.
I know these high quality denims we love are made to fade and do so because of indigo rope dying. This was how denim was made up though the 70s for the most part.

However, main stream jeans from the mall or wherever, don’t fade like the niche brands we love. How are the threads indigo dyed on mainstream jeans? Why don’t they fade like ours? Does the dye used go all the way to the core keeping the color fast for a longer period?

Probably not rope dyed because it is an expensive process, or that they are using shit indigo (and cotton and constructional yarns and hardware and and and)…..
