I was wearing my Wabash western yesterday, and a couple of people said "nice jacket!" This is something that's been happening to me for years, and it always annoys me a little because it's not a jacket, it's just a shirt. Does this happen to anyone else? It's such a stupid thing to get annoyed about, but here we are

@seawolf After I picked up my OD 14oz type 3 we visited friends and they asked me why i bought another denim jacket. I told them the other denim top I owned is a shirt (33OD in case anyone was wondering). I haven't shown them the Lefty OD yet...
I realize that the clothes we wear are weird to a lot of people
-
@seawolf compare your wabi to a standard button down or even a Levi’s western shirt and it might as well be a jacket.

Perhaps @SKT . Though patriarchy has caused a ton of problems, I wouldn’t put all of the blame upon men’s shoulders. We have all participated in building up a society that doesn’t encourage empathy or altruism—which aren’t gendered characteristics. Matter of fact, I would argue all gender roles are BS—but I know that’s a whole other rant.
We can put the blame on some men's shoulders I think. But in general I reckon a patriarchal society harms most men and women.

I was headed into the gym the other day and someone said, “I really like your jacket,” in reference to the SEXIH indigo CPO I was wearing. I almost said something, but I caught myself.
This past Sunday, though, I was not so lucky. Or maybe I should say they were not so lucky.
I actually wrote this out yesterday and thought, “This is too embarrassing to post,” but I’m going to do it anyway…
At the Super Bowl party yesterday, some guy came up to me and said, “Man, I love those boots. What are they?”
Instead of just saying Alden, I launched straight into the full Indiana Jones history lesson. Harrison Ford wore these in the movies, except they were brown, not black, and not on a wedge sole. I just kept going.
About halfway through, he goes, “Oh man, sorry, I really gotta go home. My kids need to go to bed.”
As he’s walking up the stairs, he turns around and says, “Man, I like the whole outfit. You’re killing it.”
I’m pretty sure he was thinking, “This dude really likes the stuff he’s wearing. Poor guy. Let me throw him a bone.”
I blame the alcohol.

QFT
Even weirder when one lives at 26 degC average yearly temps… -
@northsouthdenimguy That's funny.
I sometimes quite like people's old pick-up trucks that they've restored, but I will never tell them as much, because I know there is fully zero chance they'll be able to take the compliment without launching into a 30 min+ lecture about things more boring to me than just about anything else.
-
Car and truck guys are the worst. I used to do a little bit of collecting and even I couldn’t stand listening to them. lol
-
@northsouthdenimguy I do photography at vintage car shows, and I love hearing the conversations(Not Participating)that they're having,as they're all walking encyclopedias of these vehicles. The revel in the minutia.
-
It depends on what is being talked about. When they get into the minutia of the different tail lights from year to year sometimes it loses me. But other stuff is really cool.
-
@northsouthdenimguy Tail Lights by the year is definitely the number 1 topic of competition. I think that these guys use the tail lights as a test to see your level of fanaticism. If they tell someone that they first used those tail lights on the 57s,depending on their response, they can tell if you're one of them.
-
I'm pretty sure I'm one of those truck guys, but with cars. I can still remember chassis codes and spec differences on 80's & 90's Hondas and I haven't owned one for more than a decade now.
-
@Tago-Mago Ha! I guess we must seem insane to most people.
@Chibs totally fair!
@northsouthdenimguy Oooh. That's an interesting one. In my opinion, a CPO blurs the line of shirt and jacket. Still a shirt, but it's a shirt that wants to be a jacket. Or maybe a jacket that wants to be a shirt.
-
I have a Garmin but I disable notifications. I just want health and fitness tracking, not to be even less present.
-
I definitely do not disagree that CPO’s are jacket weight, although I wear all of mine as shirts. I only put a thermal underneath when it is super cold. So if anything, it is more of an overshirt than a jacket.
The paragraph above is exactly why I usually stop myself these days when someone asks me about something or makes a comment. I know if I start talking, they are getting the full dissertation whether they asked for it or not.

-
@seawolf to your point on CPO, it’s such a tough call to designate! I felt my Sexcpood was a jacket until I challenged myself to wear as a shirt. I sized my wabi cpo smaller so I think of it as a shirt and my Untucked is… I don’t know haha. I suppose they’re all switch hitters depending on how you wear em. If its the outer most layer, you can consider as a jacket. But if it’s worn under a jacket, a shirt? Oh man, my head’s spinning. What were we talking about?

It’s easy to fall into traps of negativity, but honestly all it does is bring everyone down or make things less enjoyable. I love when this place is fairly positive and supportive of each other. It makes being here fun and a place that I want to be.
When threads go on negative tangents, I get to a point where I don’t want to participate in any way shape or form. Think about what you post and what you say. Some negative feedback is good and makes things better. Some tangents are like the proverbial beating a dead horse and accomplishes nothing other than to make it not fun for someone else.
-
This could also be a good candidate for Unpopular Opinions but hate the recent wave of celebrity podcasts. I honestly don’t care about the thoughts and musings of your average celebrity. I mean are you a professional actor or a professional celebrity? At least acting has some degree of nobility behind it.

So no more bitching about why we've moved to DHL?
-
@Giles That thread in particular actually had some good constructive feedback and was a balance of this carrier is better than that carrier. It was beginning to reach a point of an echo chamber and why I believe Alex said enough in the Ask Gile/Alex anything thread.
If you would like an example of beating a dead horse, the Good Art Hollywood thread is a prime example. It’s reached a point that most of us know that they have raised their prices and for some it’s unaffordable. I get that, but it’s nothing that any of us can fix by constantly harping on that fact. The harsh reality is that it is unaffordable for some and either GAH will succeed with their new pricing structure or will have to adapt when sales drop.
No amount of bitching is going to change that and honestly this isn’t the greatest place to try and change that decision. If you’re really upset try emailing them with constructive feedback and explain your thoughts. On the flip side, GAH has said that they didn’t market correct when they should have and no longer could absorb those expenses without doing something.
Just one example of my rant…
