@Joberwocky I was introduced to Yoshimi by my uncle who really knows his music. He probably has more records than bricks in his house  🙂

Animals is the most underrated album in the history of rock music imho. Not a note wasted. Tight, lean and very, very mean. Add to that the incredible thematic execution and you’ve got a winner.

While I’m thinking about this, it occurs to me that my top 5 tracks would contain very different artists. I will have to consider that some more.

This album turned me onto a genre of music that I call "stimulating classical".  I gobble up as much of this kind of music as I can find!  I found out later that he recorded this album with a broken thumb, which made the notes mean a little more for me.  You can tell that they're very deliberate and a little slow.

            Blanket-line all the things!!!

Top 5 albums is impossible and it’s why I have almost everything on my phone.  It all depends on time, mood, surroundings, people etc.  Music has always been a big part of my life and I normally have something playing in the background most of the day.

I think the music threads on this forum sum up most of what I listen to.  Things I haven’t seen are some of the old blues Guys (Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Lead Belly, etc.) Jazz (Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, etc.), Classical, and Bluegrass music that I listen to.

What is great is you have introduced me to quite a bit of new stuff and I thank you for it.  Example:  Listened to Silent Alarm today and loved it.  Thanks G!  🙂

                Great thread!!

Love delta and hill blues and classical as well. Huge Rachmaninov, Gershwin, Beethoven, and Bach fan in particular.

Wow, a LOT to process in this thread — I see so much good shit that I don't even know where to start.

I can never do a fave albums or bands list, have tried too many times over the years only to fail. I'll be thinking of some other things (Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Murakami, William Gibson, Vonnegut for the winnnn) but for now I'll just make the only list I can readily think of.

Top 5 personal fave guitarists, in no particular order:

                      Neil Young
                      Prince
                      Bill Frisell
                      Graham Coxon
                      Mike Campbell

                      WTB
                      IHSH-IHG-BLK XXL
Sugar Cane Coke Stripe SS L charcoal

For example, what were you REALLY into at age 15, then 25, then age 40 (give or take a few years. Can get down with Kurt, Marquez, Stephenson, and especially William Fucking Gibson. I still have a cool Porter bag signed by him courtesy of @Snowy (thank you again my friend) and he is a big fan of Iron Heart and Acronym (just like me–couldn't be much more different brands but somehow we share a love for them)

❤ Love you still have that bag. I still think about it quite a bit TBH. It's a really unique bag and perfectly sized. Cyberpunk, classic Japanese, military accented.

A bit more 'pop' on the book side, I enjoy reading the Takeshi Kovacs novels (the TV series is fairly decent too). Still can't get past the original Blade Runner for OG visuals tho.

@neph93 glad to see Kate Bush being represented here. My favourite flits between The Dreaming & HOL, depends on the day.  Great to see Jeff Vandermeer on your list too, The Southern Reach trilogy is a modern masterpiece and is the eeriest stuff I’ve read in a while. I remember enjoying Vurt many years ago when I was reading as much weird Sci-Fi as possible.

@Nkwkfld how could I forget Knausgaard?! The My Struggle series is really important to me.

It’s cool to see so many crossovers in taste, and also to receive recommendations of things that have flown under my radar. It’s interesting to me how much crossover there actually is, and that the tastes don’t only align in terms of music, but books as well. This is a very enjoyable thread and I’m surprised one didn’t already exist!
