What do you guys think about this method of commuting to work at 7:30 am? Must be accepted practice in Tilcara, northern Argentina because cops were in the vicinity and didn’t act annoyed. Seems more fun that driving in a car although it can’t be very safe.

Depends on how fast they were going, I guess. Seems unlikely that an earth mover that size would be capable of getting to highway speed. Still seems more dangerous than riding in a truck bed—and in most states in the US, they don’t want you to do that.

It was slow, maybe 20-25 km/h. And they weren’t going very far. About 6 to 8 km ahead, overnight rain had dragged mud and rocks on the highway and they were going to clear that up.

I have fond memories of riding in the bucket of tractors. Every spring after the fields were freshly plowed, we would need to pick stones off the field prior to the year’s plantings. The reason we would do this is so that the stones wouldn’t get caught in the combine heads and break machinery. After walking the fields all day in loose soil, any time where you weren’t walking was much needed.

Not saying it’s safe, nor smart, but sometimes it’s a necessity so that you can keep doing a back breaking job. Just my $.02.
