It was slow, maybe 20-25 km/h. And they weren’t going very far. About 6 to 8 km ahead, overnight rain had dragged mud and rocks on the highway and they were going to clear that up.

I have fond memories of riding in the bucket of tractors. Every spring after the fields were freshly plowed, we would need to pick stones off the field prior to the year’s plantings. The reason we would do this is so that the stones wouldn’t get caught in the combine heads and break machinery. After walking the fields all day in loose soil, any time where you weren’t walking was much needed.

Not saying it’s safe, nor smart, but sometimes it’s a necessity so that you can keep doing a back breaking job. Just my $.02.

@goosehd accurate. Man I hated my friend Matt's dad. We were always so desperate for cash he'd pay us $20 for the whole day picking up rocks lol. Not enough $$ in 1950 let alone 1990 . It was always hot too... In April....
