I'm in a similar spot as Matt with a daughter who is a fan.
I'm personally stoked to see a new generation getting excited about going to record stores, standing in line before doors open and buying physical media.Taylor Swift is a prime gateway drug for other awesome female artists like Stevie Nick's, Chrissie Hynde, Debbie Harry etc....

I’m in the same boat. Really can’t stand her music, but she’s pretty badass. If I had kids, I could think of a lot worse bands/artists for them to be into.

New Taylor Swift is what I’ll be listening to in the car this morning. Anyone else?
No, thank you.
I don't get it either. It's obviously a phenomenon, but not one I like by any means.
I’ve had very limited exposure to her music and felt underwhelmed with what I’ve heard. I know she’s very popular, but It's not my taste of music.

@Matt - i have a 14yr old daughter, so i'm in the know. and as you said, i can imagine far worse music choices for her.

In this time of completely vacuous trash, “meh” is a huge win for your kid’s preferences.

I think this is an awesome perspective

One thing I’ve started doing is building shared playlists (Spotify family) with each kid and sprinkling in stuff I think they’d like that they might not find on their own. My son turns 13 this week and he loves TS but I’ve got him listening to The Beths, Soccer Mommy and Phoebe Bridgers this way.

@SKT I was just listening to Soccer Mommy this morning. So much cool, fun guitar shit on Color Theory.
-
@popvulture oh yeah…great record!
-
@Matt yep at 12 I thought abysmal hair bands were the greatest but was about to be waylaid and saved by Nirvana.
-
First of all shame on me for being discriminatory but I was not expecting a cool vibey band out of Belarus

Really looking forward to the new Fontaines D.C. album coming out in a couple of months time.
They always seem to perfectly walk the line between post-punk attitude, and cathartic melancholy with their songwriting.
Closing track of their second album really moved me earlier today after a rough few days.
