By definition, anything I listen to is good. If it were rubbish I wouldn’t be listening to it. Unfortunately, my definition is not shared by all…

Aside from shit like nazi punk I tend to think its always a net positive when anybody gets passionate about any type of music

        Even schlager......

One thing I’ve started doing is building shared playlists (Spotify family) with each kid and sprinkling in stuff I think they’d like that they might not find on their own. My son turns 13 this week and he loves TS but I’ve got him listening to The Beths, Soccer Mommy and Phoebe Bridgers this way.

@Matt yep at 12 I thought abysmal hair bands were the greatest but was about to be waylaid and saved by Nirvana.

Really looking forward to the new Fontaines D.C. album coming out in a couple of months time.

They always seem to perfectly walk the line between post-punk attitude, and cathartic melancholy with their songwriting.

Closing track of their second album really moved me earlier today after a rough few days.

“𝑁𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑙𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑏 𝑦𝑜𝑢. 𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑚𝑒𝑒𝑡 𝑖𝑡, 𝑖𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡𝑜, 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑤𝑒𝑎𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑜𝑛 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑐ℎ 𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑚 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡.”

^Haha @october-rust awesome. Takes me back to concerts at the Royal Court in Liverpool in the late 80's. It's funny, I still listen to SOTM and FotN regularly, but rarely The Mish. I may have to fix that today.

@neph93 Andrew and Wayne both brought magic to Sisters of Mercy that they couldn't replicate without the other- but I still love both of their music following the split. Did you go to the With Manchester With Love benefit at Royal Court? The Smiths, New Order, The Fall... Can't imagine.

From age 16-18 I preferred the Mish, but SoM took over after that despite being a seriously damaged and unpleasant individual I always preferred Von’s ascerbic rock god vanity. Totally agree that the early EP’s and FaLaA are better than anything either made after.

I lived in Liverpool from 1986 until 1993 so Royal Court was my natural venue. That gig was when I was a teen and still listening to metal and and I think I saw Metallica and Slayer there that year, so it passed me by in my ignorance. My love of goth and post punk started slightly later, after the necessary hormonal re-adjustment 😂
