I will be visiting Japan next month and had a few questions about The Works.

      (1) Does the online store reflect the items in stock at the physical store? https://ironheart.shop-pro.jp/
      (2) Is The Works set up to do tax free purchases (or offer the tax refund)?
      (3) Can you receive a tax refund for purchases made online? I couldn't find any info regarding this.

No to all questions. I bought something at the store that showed out of stock on the jp site.

The only way I think you can get a tax refund is by following this process on the same day. There might be other places that have these counters but I didn't know this until after our visit.

Thanks. I also saw that page but I thought it was relevant only for the stores in the Takashimaya chain.

I think that might be true @DrPat. We went to one of those counters inside a department store for something the wife bought there and the whole process seemed very oriented to in store items. Could be worth a try.

              1. can't say for sure. I've never visited their website
              2. yes (from what I vaguely remember in 2019) could be wrong on this..
              3. no

tax refund in Japan is a lot easier now. when you enter the country, there's a sticker. business use that QR code to process tax free purchases. as opposed to the old method where they fill out forms and staple it to your passport, only to be removed as you leave the country.

only departmental stores require you to go to a counter as stated above.

also in Japan, you pay the tax free rate upfront. you do not pay tax included and claim it back at the airport.

There were a couple of us there last week. We both asked separately about tax free and they kindly said no each time.

Also, we did the qr coffee registration with visit Japan and not a single retailer used it, instead doing it the old way of writing down info and taking a picture of our passport.

it's really down to individual business I guess. the smaller ones don't really do it, but major tourist hotspots ie. Uniqlo do provide tax refunds.

The Real McCoys and Iron Heart are the only two smaller brands that didn't offer tax free shopping when I was in Japan in January. SDA and Jelado offered tax free. A few others did, too.

I made it to the shop yesterday. Using Google maps makes the journey painless, except for the fact that it takes almost an hour and a half to get there from west Tokyo.

Here you can see the location of the bus stop at Hachioji station.

And you can follow along as the bus drives.

I can confirm that they don’t do tax free.

                          A few pics.

@Matt no matter how hard I try, I can’t make them look like IHSH-379-RED - Ultra Heavy Flannel Ombré Check Work Shirt - Red. 😉
So far I have not seen them on any photos from Japan, they seem to be victims of supply chain shortages.

Greetings from the west coast of Canada!

New member to the forum with a question for you seasoned Iron Heart veterans. I’ll be going to Japan next week and wondering if any of you have been to the Hachioji store? If so, what should I expect? Are there items that are exclusive to Japan? How is the range and selection of Iron Heart gear? Any advice?

Does anyone know of any other stores in the greater Tokyo area that carry Iron Heart products?

                                      Thanks in advance
                                      John
