The measurements are spot on with size 38 compared to my usual 36. I know these don’t stretch as much. But the rear rise is about an inch and half shorter than my 888s-142ib. Are they basically just going to sit lower on my waist?

Yes, this has a lower rise compared to the 888's. From the measurements the waist is also a bit on the lower side, so sizing up is good in my opinion.

The top block of the 777 is about as different to the top block of the 888 as you can get @Choko. Much lower rise, different shape, and much more trim over the hips.

Picked up the 777D. I couldn’t wait for the 888D to restock. Shoulda jumped on those when I had the chance! But I’m happy with the fit on these. I sized up to a 38” from my usual 36”. Little loose in the waist, tight in the crotch but I’m cool with it.

Any thoughts on applying Smith's Leather balm on the IH patches? My 777D just came out of a wash cycle and I would like to apply some oil or fat to the patch for longevity. Smith's is the only one that I have currently with me. Is this Okay?

Anything oil/fat based will do the job.

Any clearish oil/grease will help.  I sometimes use olive oil if I can't be arsed to move from the kitchen….
