In all seriousness, let it go—shoes will ALWAYS scuff up if you wear them at all.

There is a fade line going down the side of these UHR I recently purchased. It follows the jeans from where they were folded for years in storage. Similar thing happened to my Untucked shirt I bought online. Not a big deal to me, but my question is has this happened to any of your jeans ir shirts before?

If I don’t wash inside out ,I thought that was kind of like a channel that the dye runs out through. I might be wrong about that.

Every pair I think.  I turn a blind eye.  The problem is I have so many pairs they spend more time folded then on me so that’s the predominant wear pattern.

Ah okay gotcha…as I stated I don't mind it really, especially since they are an older pair or UHR they just have added character.

@Jett129 Yes this you are correct about too, especially if the garment is not pulled out before the spin cycle. The line in this pair I think was caused from being folded though. I could be wrong? Reason I think this is because they line follows it on both sides actually and exactly where the fold was.

Mine don't do this, but I think mine fold along the seams (and are not XHS). Assuming the wear patterns show up between and not during storage, you may be able to iron or steam the crease out before wear to minimize the pattern.

I had this happen to an SBG western, maybe it was the first Johnny Cash, but something was weird about the dying and it faded super quickly. The fade stripes down the sleeves ruined it for me, but the happy end of the story is that that enabled me to justify the "matte black" OD shirt (that also stemmed from a production SNAFU, where they used the wrong bobbin thread on a batch of 33s and Giles convinced Haraki to overdye them), which I think will be the last black denim snap shirt I ever need.

                  Think it, be it.

That's why I was surprised and confused when I saw the vertical line down the side. The pair has zero fades elsewhere, so I'm still a little unsure. I hot soaked them for an hour in a tub and that helped reduce the crease mark where it was, and after wearing them all day the line is less noticeable.

It's all good though, they fit like a dream and I'm happy to have a pair of older UHR so I don't end up buying a new one when they come out later this year (or whenever they end up popping up).

😃 The pair I’m wearing today have the same thing going on… 821 SBG engineers I bought on eBay. It was noticeable in the pictures of the listing and I assumed it was from washing or storage. I bought them anyways as I was planning to wear them as work pants. I liked them so much when they showed up I wouldn’t even consider destroying them at work (I’m an Ironworker and completely destroy a pair of jeans every couple weeks). I did hand wash them today before wearing and it seemed to make it less noticeable. I bet you won’t really notice it after I wear them for a couple months.

I just had this same thing happen to my XHS. Thankfully the line didn't come out too sharp/bright, but I soaked them in the shower before putting em in the washer as an attempt to avoid weird shit, and it happened anyway. I'll also note that this is the first time I've washed em in the machine, previous 2 have been tub washes.

From what I've gathered, they flatten out in the washer and you get that crease. The same thing has happened with my 666-21L, but it was just a crease, no loss of dye.

Haha I know I'm not really adding anything to the conversation here other than "this happened to me too," but I do know that I'll be back to washing pretty much all of my jeans in the tub from here on out. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Using low spin is also key. It minimises the «flattening out».

Honestly I kinda enjoy washing my iron heart stuff by hand… my wife (and mother in-law for that matter) get a big kick out of it. Every time one of them sees me get something on my clothes they laugh and say “should I go start the bath?”  😃 I guess I get a kick out of it too. It’s a running joke around our house that I do laundry like it’s the 1800’s. Also I have had cheaper clothes get little nicks from the washing machine and the dryer. I’m not taking any chances on stuff I have put a lot of time and or money into.

I'm in the same boat — totally love hand washing. And the spin is a good tip, it does make sense that it'd flatten em out.

I'm sticking with the tub washes though. My washing machine was rated as the top model by Consumer Reports when I bought it, and whaddya know it's a colossal turd. I don't really like washing anything particularly finicky/valuable in it.

                                    My method:

Cold water (unless it's a new pair and I'm doing a hot soak), add detergent while the tub's filling to get the bubbles going. Wash right side out, for 20 mins one side, agitate, flip and do 20 minutes other side. Drain tub, refill, agitate and rinse for 10 to 15 mins. Hang up. I weight jeans down with jars to keep everything underwater during the wash.

edit: I'll also add that I wash right side out because I find no need to do otherwise, never got any kind of marbling washing stuff in the tub, inside out or not.

Haha, good question! I don't usually have stains on stuff because I'm an anal-retentive dweeb and am always watching out, but… whenever it does happen, I pre-treat with a petroleum-based dishwashing soap like Dawn for about 5 mins before putting it in the tub. Once I was cutting up an avocado which slipped out of my hands — I subsequently caught it before it hit the ground but managed to smash it into my 666-21ODs. Since avocados are basically just pure fat, it left a big, nasty oil stain. Dawn got it out.

Oh and the other day, my cat got out and I had to chase her around the yard (highly comical, I have little doubt), and got a big grass stain on my wabash painter's pants. Once again, Dawn to the rescue.

After pre-treating with the Dawn and putting whatever it is in the tub, I usually just kinda scrub the area with my hand until I can't feel the slipperiness of the soap anymore.

If there's no staining though, I usually just agitate the jeans a couple times to help the detergent do its thing.

And yes, this. It's not ruining the jeans or anything. And as someone else mentioned earlier, the rest of the fades will eventually catch up to it, and it'll seem less obvious.
