I do like Greg and Tom the best (or dislike them the least?), and I love their weird buddy relationship.

I fucking hate them, and most of my ranting at the TV is reserved for how utterly fucking useless they both are…...

I enjoyed watching it too @Jett129 (my following rant will say otherwise), but I have some bad things to say about Netflix movies as a whole. After watching the last 2 big actor movies that came out recently (Don't Look up Leo and J Law, and Red Notice Rock and Ryan Reynolds) I can say that the movie industry, especially on "straight to streaming service" platform, is in serious trouble.

Neither movie has any rewatchablility. They don't make you feel anything. It's like the directors sit around the idea table and say "ok we've got the plot, now cut out all character building scenes or anything remotely slow or that bog down the story". "If we're going to keep these idiots' attention, and keep them off their phones for more than 2 seconds, we have to fucking slam from scene to scene with bright colors and action like they're toddlers".

If movies from now on are designed to keep my attention once, but never watch again and never mutter a positive word after watching, than they are successful.

        @Jett129:

Really enjoyed/recommend Don’t Look Up on Netflix.

The way I think of the characters of Succession is that, yes, each is a piece of shit in their own way, but that their flaws mostly follow from their abusive patriarch mistreating them and deliberately undermining them when he isn't pitting them against one another (and often both). So, yeah, no one seems redeemable, but I blame Logan Roy more than I do their station in society / the economy (though surely both are to blame).

This article about Jeremy Strong got a lot of flack from defensive associates of his, but it is a helluva read (or a listen if you have Apple News+). I don't understand why it got the reaction it does–Strong comes off pretentious AF, but so what?

          Think it, be it.

Hahaha I totally agree with you in that they are useless — really everyone in that show is deplorable. I like those two better than the Roy kids any day, though. I feel like the only thing that makes Succession watchable is the humor, and I think Tom and Greg occupy a huge chunk of it.

@mclaincausey I read an interesting response to the New Yorker piece on Jeremy Strong in the NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/09/opinion/culture/jeremy-strong-new-yorker-careerist-striver.html

I just read on NPR that the Nightmare on Elm St house just sold for $3M which isn’t surprising considering it’s in LA but what I did find interesting was that it was previously owned by Bo Burnham and is where he filmed Inside, for which he recd about $4M from NF.  Considering he had no cast or crew I’d say Bo’s doing pretty well for himself.

Bo Burnam (I haven't heard or seen his bits) must be crushing because he occupies a bunch of top comedy spots on Apple Music and has all these specials on Netflix.

BUT OMG @Matt you made me think of THIS AMAZING THING:

Which in turn made me think of THIS EQUALLY AMAZING THING:

Any, even though I love the Misfits and Danzig, my day is just a bit brighter now.

Just finished the second season of "The Witcher" which my wife was more into than me.  I feel like not a whole lot happens over the 8 episode run and it ends with an unearned"twist".  Here's hoping season 3 improves

@Joberwocky I really liked Season 1 — thought it was kind of perfectly ramshackle. Haven't gotten to S2 yet, though.

In other series news, I saw that Raised by Wolves is coming back at the beginning of Feb. SUPER psyched for that.

We’ve been bingeing Euphoria during this snowstorm. I like it. Interestingly shot and totally trippy, as well as extremely well-acted for a “high-school” drama. As with most things about people that age, I’m sure all of the actors are 20s+

@sabergirl I haven’t checked out Euphoria because I’ve been scared it’ll just make me worry about “kids these days.” And I don’t even have kids 😃 I’ll fully admit it’s an absurd reason.

@Joberwocky man it’s so good! I love that they were willing to spend money on a more heady sci fi offering. The world needs more of that.

I am totally with you on that. I still find it offensive that Alex Garland just took Jeff Van Der Meer’s basic premise and tossed the rest. Plus the orig was a MUCH more interesting story, imho. AG is a good writer, too — you’d think he’d be more respectful of that sort of thing after Danny Boyle murdered The Beach in the film adaptation.

I agree that the premise and execution of the story in the book is much more compelling, and unfortunately AG's movie left no chance to adapt the different but fun second book
