Thanks very much @Aetas - we've made a lot of headway over the past few days, we are feeling positive, and looking forward to posting some better news here soon  🙂

I don't have much to contribute to this other than to wish the entire IH UK team the best. I'm certain this will get resolved over time, because it's in the interest of everyone involved. It's going to be painful in the meantime though and I'm sorry you're having to deal with this crap.

A couple of great quotes from an article I read earlier….

“To turn our backs on the world’s largest trading bloc, which is on our doorstep, in favour of trying to create trade deals with countries that couldn’t be further away, and have much smaller economies, is total stupidity and beyond comprehension,”

‘Never in the field of British business has so much been destroyed for so many, by so few.’ -  🙂 🙂 🙂

I just got an email from the Belgian Post office:

This is total bullshit. I realy wonder how this will go with p2p shipments…

We are in the process of registering for the European One-Stop Shop (IOSS) system.  But more importantly, we now have a Netherlands VAT number, so we will be shipping in bulk into The Netherlands, clearing customs there, and then on-shipping from The Netherlands.  This will likely add a day or two onto the shipping times, but it will effectively be an intra EU shipment.

Great news @Giles. Does this also make the  issue of returns less costly for you? If I understood correctly, you're now paying custom duties twice on returned items, right?

No, we are not paying taxes or duties on the return (well, sometimes we do, because I think the people who work in UPS brokerage share a brain cell, but we can reclaim those, as they are mischarges).

The issue is, that we cant reclaim the taxes and duties that we paid on our customer's behalf, so when we get a return, we basically piss that away.

We "sold" two pairs of Wesco boots to a guy in Germany recently.  He returned both pairs.  That cost us Euro600 on taxes, duties, fees, and shipping charges for zero revenue.

I may as well be ripping up banknotes and flushing them down the toilet, it would be a lot easier way to piss away Euro600.

What a mess. I'm really sorry to hear it.

^And at least that might give a strange rock n roll rush of decadence, which you're not getting this way either. Ugh… what a mess.

Brexit was emotive and highly complex.  Almost 6 months in, and we, as a company, are still not getting proper advice on how to deal with it.  We elect our leaders to represent us and to make difficult decisions on our behalf.  I'm not the sharpest tool in the box, but I am not the dullest either, and the complexities were way beyond me. I have older friends who voted to leave "so we could get our old blue passports back and make the empire great again".  I avoid talking to them about it because my forehead would get firmly and violently embedded in the bridge of their noses.

But there is some joy to be had.  I have a friend who lives as an expat in Spain, he has some British Expat friends who voted to leave (go figure), now they are restricted to being in the EU for no more than 90 days, so they cant use their holiday homes or their boats for a substantial part of the year. Wankers.
