My experience: don't play with diets without the supervision of a physician and without undergo periodic blood tests. It's  very easy to get blood imbalances which are subsequently very difficult treat.

The expert quoted on paleo doesn't understand the diet or how ancestral peoples probably ate: ". “A true Paleo diet might be a great option: very lean, pure meats, lots of wild plants,” said one expert – quickly adding, however, that duplicating such a regimen in modern times would be difficult."

I dispute that there WAS a "true Paleo diet," and that if there was the characterization wouldn't be reduced to "very lean, pure meats, lots of wild plants," and I also dispute that his mischaracterization of an imaginary diet is a difficult regimen in modern times. It's hard to layer that much wrongness in such a small sentence.

            Think it, be it.

So, it seems like I should do something to get back in better shape. Don't know if it's being in the 30s for a while now, some stress & bad Food, but I got a small beer gut and find it harder and harder to build up or at least Keep some muscles. Worst Thing is, I used to weigh only 70 kg 5 years ago although I ate a lot and was hungry all the time. The latter hasn't changed and my mind is still set on "eat as much as you can, it's good for you" but I'm at 86 Kg now.

What would you suggest changing - I'm not set on a 180° Change or a diet, just feel like my Food & sports Routine could be a bit modified… My aim would be to lose the fat around the belly, maybe lose 1-2 kg and transform the rest into muscle. Haha.

I sympathize. You need a time machine to take you back to 25 😃 Barring that- ramp up the exercise , put the fork down, and back away from the table. It only gets worse as you age!

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them…
                      Well, I have others.

Since food is one of the most important regeneration-resources I would suggest you can still eat when you're already exercising, maybe slightly minimizing the most unhealthy stuff. The easiest advice is to be more active, e.g. using the stairs instead of the lift, walking and hiking a lot (what you're already into :)). A bit harder is to be more active while exercising, e.g. running and swimming serve the best as a total body workout but need a lot of time >:(.

Thanks gents, that already motivates me. Would be perfect to have a personal Trainer for a while to get the most basic knowledge - like I said, I never counted calories at all and have only done sports because of the fun of it. Guess it's time to take things a bit more serious now.

The secret to losing weight is eat less and move more.

If you want to slim down then track (and reduce) your calories and pick a sport or form of exercise you like. And remember if you want to keep it off, you're going to have to stick to these changes.

Losing 16 kg would probably take most of a year. The target tends to be 0.5 kg / week, but in practice it's slower.

                              Good luck.

Oh, and you'll also find that weight loss has the side effect of meaning your clothes stop fitting you properly. With an IH habit this gets rather expensive. :o

I know, from bitter, personal experience!

About 6 months ago, fell over and landed on my hip, I've had a pain in the hip ever since.  I thought nothing much  about it until I was walking with @kai in Bangkok and she remarked on how bad I was limping.  A couple of friends also recently commented on how much I was limping, and a few times recently, my right leg has just collapsed…..

That was the kick I needed up the arse to do something about it. So, I went to the Dr's.  Basically my muscles around the hip have atrophied and my right buttock is effectively disappearing....And I though my weight loss was down to a better lifestyle 🙂

It's actually an interesting lesson in how if something happens slowly, you learn to adapt.  I simply had no idea I had anything significant wrong with me.

I have a course of physio lined up.  I also checked with the Doctor, regular kicking the cats should help too..... 🙂

thanks for giving this thread a bump mikey @madmonday …

since moving to switzerland 2.5years ago, eating right/healthy and staying in shape by being active and going to the gym or running a couple of miles a few times a week were things i didn't came along to do very often, unfortunately -.-
so i´ve gained all the weight back which i have lost during my whole30 and switching to paleo.

now during my 3week christmas and new years holidays, i´ve came to the conclusion to get back in shape for 2016. went to the gym a couple of times and went for a couple of runs through the forest with the missus.

really feeling it again and i really hope to stay at it...even after going back to work on monday 😠

edit: physio is a great thing @Giles …also in for my six session on wednesday and it really amazes me on how things get better and better each time i´ve been there. wishing you the same great feeling/experience sir... so let´s hope for a really fast recovery...just thinking about the cats ^^
