@robinvonbatman ty for this, I have an XXL Lefty on the way but looks like I can downsize to XL. I am also an XXL in the Lod
I tried the XXL and it was way too big. If the XXL Lod suits you well I'm pretty sure going with a XL in the indigo will make you happy too. Especially after a good soak/wash.
-
@robinvonbatman sounds good. And yes, looking at measurements and some soak tests, I was a bit worried the XL lefty would be too small in the chest after a soak, but looks like the ch est doesn’t shrink too much.
Thank all yall for the soak tests and pics, helps out a lot

Thank you! It’s always a pleasure to help. It’s a bit snug but I could fit a 9oz flannel underneath the lefty and still close the buttons. But for the perfect fit I was aiming for just wearing it with a t-shirt.
-
As for sizing, this batch seems to run a little on the larger side. I went for a size M, that fits perfectly after washing, but usually take L in IH tops (I even have a 12 oz Whipcord Type 3 in XL).
-
@V-P I agree 100%. It’s the first time I had to downsize for a top piece.
-
Could I get some pre-soak size advice? I went for XXL because P2P and waist (i got a bit of a barrel) seemed best, overall pretty happy with the fit knowing itll tighten up a bit but have concern around the shoulders mostly, they feel like I am wearing football pads at the moment as they stick up a bit.
My hunch is that with a good warm soak itll calm down and also tighten up, any insights? Seems from shrink tests shoulders have a decent amount of shrinkage in them also. Just dont want to soak and then it still feel like football shoulders.
-
@Ikeaparty I’m worried it might be too small after you soak.
-
I did have a UHF and tshirt under, which ill likely not have this buttoned if i have a flannel and tshirt under when actually wearing it, maybe just a warm soak not hot?

@Ikeaparty mine looked similar initially. even without soaking, the shoulders came way down before too long.
-
@Setanta awesome, I committed and soaked it, just partially drying now before I throw it on in the morning to set some creases!

Started reading this thread from the beginning on Monday whenever I found free time. Very inspiring to read through the OG lefty crew evolution. Mine should be waiting when I get home this evening. Gonna soak and "wear it a lot"!
MAJOR throwback to @Oaktavia mentioning the covid stimulus check to pick this one up in 2020! Thanks for the great read everyone.

Looks too big? I picked up a 526Lod, both XL, but the LOD fits perfect in my opinion. The body on the 526L is a little longer, maybe that's what's off. Measurements are pretty similar though. Maybe should have gone Large in the 526L? I soaked twice. First time 30c 1hr, second time 40c 1hr.
-
@jpvisual It’s not enough to just soak for maximum shrinking, it needs agitation too. If you want maximum shrinkage, use as hot tap water as you can get and agitate the jacket while soaking. Then put it in the washing machine on 40 degrees gentle cycle. You probably can use a low spin cycle too but I wouldn’t dare.
-
@sabergirl I didn't explain it well I think. The other jacket is a 526LOD in an XL. That fits well. The 526L is also an XL, but is a size too large for me. It's difficult to tell from the photos, but it's pretty big on me. The actual measurements post 40c soak are pretty close to what is listed on the size chart. So basically it didn't shrink much. The Large 526L measurements match the 526LOD XL I have much closer. Given that I didn't notice much shrinkage after a 40C 1hr soak, the Large would have been the correct choice. I was under the impression the indigo version would shrink to what the OD measurements were...or close, but it's not even close. A one inch difference in most of the measurements between the two, body length, chest, shoulders, etc. Even with differences across one size, that seems like a huge difference.
-
I still maintain the pics of you wearing both look good. There isn’t any home washing regimen that you could do that will match the heat and intensity of the OD process, but if you wanted to wash and tumble dry, you might still get the shrinkage you’re after. Just make sure the jacket is well-drenched before you do it.
-
@jpvisual The OD is fully shrunk from the start. The fabric needs heat AND movement/agitation to shrink fully. Try it again, with as hot water you can get, and whisk it around and squeeze it as much as possible while soaking.
