Just want to say I really appreciate this resource and I did not intend to kick off a huge buy/sell forum debate. Was just suggesting posts could be left up a bit longer after a sale.

That being said, I’ve bought and sold a decent amount on here and only had one issue and was able to resolve it with the seller no problem.

So if you all want to go with status quo, that’s a much better alternative than causing everyone a bunch of strife over a minor issue.

@samo it was a valid point and something needed from time to time. Helps to keep everyone on the same page and also identifies issues that we may be unaware of.

People reusing others’ pics are either scammers or lazy dicks, @goosehd . I’m not sure taking the pics down any sooner really prevents that.

The buy/sell forum has been waaay better, and for that I am grateful to the mods. Tagging pics with a dated slip is the best safeguard.

@goosehd yeah the fees are crazy! almost like there is a gap in the market for undercutting the competition! 😂

After doing some proper research, I was in fact off with my estimations that a gap in the market was viable. Basically, payment processors such as Stripe or PayPal dictate that you need a big additional % to make any money on top of their mandatory fee.

The forum marketplace will live on!

I’ve got a selling question, if i may tack it on to this thread:

Haven’t put anything up for sale here in many years, but recently have been thinking about advertising some items - a couple of which are worth a fair bit. Seeing as i’d prefer not to get ripped off, is it reasonable for me to include a statement to the effect of “will only deal with forum members who have an established track record or reputation”? Or would that be considered poor form?

…on the flip side, I very rarely hear of any issues with sales and think that this platform is relatively safe. There are a few habitual tire kickers, but not real issues.

Edit: and the greatest condition added to any ad from a member:

                          @Giles said in Random Rants:

So, use the Filthy Mike clause, which I think is genius....

                          To paraphrase:

"I believe this to be a fair price. I will not entertain offers, nor will I respond to them"

Can also be read as "get fucked, loser"

I urge you to use it in your listings.......

@RocknRoll What I found on other forums which have a marketplace is "you choose the seller" just as much as the item, especially when doing payment methods such as PPFF... I have no idea why people would buy from someone that is completely new to the forum and is selling expensive items

Yeah for sure. I would neither buy from, nor sell to, someone who has just signed up (unless i know who they are via some other means). They might be perfectly legitimate, but the risk is higher than I’m willing to accept.

@AdamJ the amount of money I spend on Marrkt is obscene.

I would happily pay IHUK more than stuff goes for on the secondary market, and Marrkt takes a fairly hefty cut. I believe about 40%.

Obviously they have to manage everything including shipping and returns, but having reloved including customer consigned items would fill it up somewhat. I have never found anything that’s what I’m looking for on there so I now never check.

I’m sure this has been discussed and would be a load more work than would be viable, but with the infrastructure in place already I figured worth mentioning that there is enough margin for consigned items to work.

Broken old houses, boring Scottish whisky, weird Japanese denim, all French wine, sad American music, wool socks in summer.

@Daysleepers It would get messy with the financial side of things, namely holding money and taking % is way more complicated than the standard transactional system we have now.

That was also the primary reason I decided against developing our own standalone platform because competing with Grailed/Maarkt/eBay is not easy with the payment processor fees etc.

When you say you can't find what you want, is that down to looking for specific items or the actual UX of the relove category?

I’d love to be able to set stock alerts for restocks of new items and be alerted to matching reloved items.
