@AdamJ holy hell...I was curious how much Grailed takes from a sale: 9% over $120 and 6% under plus a transaction processing fee. That buys a lot of beer!! Sign me up 🙂

I'm not against or for either option really, but I will offer two real use cases for a locked or archived thread.

I've caught scammers before by finding someone else's ad with the same pictures and everything in their post. I was able to see who sold and bought, did a little asking on the side, and found out that it was a scam.

Some forums require listing the price it sold for to help others price their items in the future. I think this is a little less value here with most clothing bc it's a pretty know retail price and established used market with relatively low variety. The other from I'm thinking of was for camera gear so you can imagine the wide range of things to price.

@pechelman my argument for the price it sold: is that should we encourage everyone to sell for the same price or should we encourage people to sell for what they think it's worth?

This marketplace isn't about people trying to make a profit and discourages flipping to do so. Just like the recent Ship John thread and people buying a limited item only to put it on eBay shortly thereafter trying to make a quick buck.

I have a strong bias against the entire practice across the board in all things (knives, watches, clothing, etc.), but that's my hangup...

...and to add, the only time I get involved regarding pricing on the forum is when someone prices something higher than the retail price, obviously trying to make a unreasonable profit. Not here as there are much better places to do so...

limit the time to edit posts in that specific forum, like 10mins to work out errors and typos. after that, replies only. mods only can delete threads.

I delete my own sales threads when I’m done with it. In the three dots on the first post of a thread you created there’s a delete option.

Just want to say I really appreciate this resource and I did not intend to kick off a huge buy/sell forum debate. Was just suggesting posts could be left up a bit longer after a sale.

That being said, I’ve bought and sold a decent amount on here and only had one issue and was able to resolve it with the seller no problem.

So if you all want to go with status quo, that’s a much better alternative than causing everyone a bunch of strife over a minor issue.

People reusing others’ pics are either scammers or lazy dicks, @goosehd . I’m not sure taking the pics down any sooner really prevents that.

The buy/sell forum has been waaay better, and for that I am grateful to the mods. Tagging pics with a dated slip is the best safeguard.

After doing some proper research, I was in fact off with my estimations that a gap in the market was viable. Basically, payment processors such as Stripe or PayPal dictate that you need a big additional % to make any money on top of their mandatory fee.

The forum marketplace will live on!

I’ve got a selling question, if i may tack it on to this thread:

Haven’t put anything up for sale here in many years, but recently have been thinking about advertising some items - a couple of which are worth a fair bit. Seeing as i’d prefer not to get ripped off, is it reasonable for me to include a statement to the effect of “will only deal with forum members who have an established track record or reputation”? Or would that be considered poor form?

…on the flip side, I very rarely hear of any issues with sales and think that this platform is relatively safe. There are a few habitual tire kickers, but not real issues.

Edit: and the greatest condition added to any ad from a member:

                                        @Giles said in Random Rants:

So, use the Filthy Mike clause, which I think is genius....

                                        To paraphrase:

"I believe this to be a fair price. I will not entertain offers, nor will I respond to them"

Can also be read as "get fucked, loser"

I urge you to use it in your listings.......

I have no idea why people would buy from someone that is completely new to the forum and is selling expensive items
