A few recent pics on the farm. We’ve had a bitter cold streak but no snow the last few weeks.

The animals have been all cooped up and getting bored of the same old thing.

We had a wonderful sunset tonight with a storm passing in the distance. Starting to feel like Spring at the farm.

I really hope you have a rocking chair on your front porch

In the easy chair with my boots on, melted whiskey in my hand. Could'na been asleep for more than three hours...time to go to work again...

When we bought the farm we inherited ducks from friend of ours who sent along a janky duck coop setup. We hated it but it worked for a time.

Excuse my wife with the air rifle, we had been practicing for the protection of our birds and this was the best pic I could find showing the coop. We have had a bad coyote and fox problem the last couple months (luckily we haven’t lost any birds), and so we haven’t let the birds free range without us both out watching like shepherds.

Onto our solution. We had a shed built that we intended to use for goats, but then we pulled back and decided we were too busy to add more animals to the farm.

So that shed sat and was just used as, well a shed for over a year. Finally we decided to repurpose is as a far too large duck house and add a larger run to the side of it. It’s 8’x24’ and we put in 2 automatic solar doors so we can segregate the Drakes when they are over mating. Photos of old and new.

The chickens are getting an expanded run today to give them more space.

                  Who needs savings anyhow?

So cool. I miss Minnesota. I was born in Grand Forks, ND and lived in New London / Spicer Minn for a bit in my youth. We vacationed on the lakes of Minn, Relatives had cabins on Grace Lake, Lake Bemidji, and Detroit Lakes. My uncle lives in Fertile now. Such a beautiful state.

Welcome the newest addition to Nightshade Farm.

My wife has always wanted a Dalmatian. This guy is 9 weeks old and has been a gem so far.

Dalmatians were bred to run along side of carriages and protect horses, hence why they have association with Fireman, as the first fire/water wagons were pulled by horses.

No name yet. Yes I’ve cleaned up pee and am angry about it.
