They are built a tad oversize so you can wear them over a leather jacket. So it depends how you intend to wear it....

Got this guy about a week ago in the mail and love it. I’m curious how much it softens up though. It’s super rigid and wonder if it will ever relax like the 21oz indigo.

It will relax, but it will take more time than 21oz indigo. Its a pretty rugged denim

Hello, I’m currently looking into Iron Heart vests. I noted that this vest has a different fit compared to the OD variant, which is quite nice, because I prefer the roomier fit to layer a jacket or flannel underneath. On the other hand, I think I would prefer the selvedge OD variant. Is there a chance/plan that the OD variant will get a similar fit?
What is special about the denim of this variant? Why is it non selvedge when there are other sulfur dyed denim variant in the iron heart portfolio that are selvedge?

There is no plan to change the pattern used on the 526SV. The overdyed version is a slghtly slimmer fit than the 526SV as it is the indigo vest, overdyed black, which causes shrinkage.

The superblack non fade denim was one of the origional Iron Heart fabrics - it will no longer be made, though, see here:

This one is more rigid, and feels a bit more 'protective' than the selvedge version

Well, let’s say I have inVESTed. Got one in large, love the fit. I have to admit, if I had the chance, I would have chosen the indigo overdyed version, but the fit on the super black fits me better. More room in the chest, while being a bit shorter in length. It’s my first superblack piece, let’s see how I like the fabric. And btw, the non selvedge fabric is not noticeable at all, no overlock stitching on the inside of the vest.
