@Chibs Pretty sure that's how Mike explained it in one of his lives awhile back before one of the original drops. It's why it was one of the harder fabrics for him to get in large quantities and why it tends to be more expensive.

@Chibs @rahrah12 Sashiko-ori fabric is also made on a loom. It is just done in a manner to replicate the hand-stitched look from a traditional Sashiko weave. Ship John uses the term Sashiko-ori, which appears to be technically correct. Whereas other clothing manufacturers who use Sashiko-ori fabrics just call it by the short hand “Sashiko”

@MrJay Got it, that makes a bit more sense cost wise. So this stuff is basically Dobby cloth?

@Chibs I believe that’s right. My understanding (although others should correct me if I’m mistaken) is that Sashiko-ori is just a specific kind of fabric/pattern of weave woven on a dobby loom. So whereas all Sashiko-ori fabrics are also technically dobby fabrics, not all dobby fabrics are Sashiko-ori

@Chibs Haha oh no! Looking back, my response could have been clearer. I just meant that Sashiko-ori is just a particular kind of pattern woven on a dobby loom

@MrJay Thank you. It would be interesting to compare this with Iron Heart's Dobby and I know they've made Sashiko in the past too. Curious if there's a discernable difference.

@Chibs To me the material used for the IHV-50-IND and the material used for Ship John's Sashiko-ori are almost indiscernible. I will try and take a picture of them together today.

I might throw mine up on ebay if the IH CPO dobby fits me well. Although, I really like the Townes and may just get it hemmed.

Just at my local tailor in Des Moines, IA. I wrote Ship John before I did my first one. They said to wash it and let it dry first and the fabric is much easier to sew. They thought any tailor should be able to do it. I believe @hgering27 did as well. He may have someone he suggest. He gave much more detail about his tailoring than I could.
