Wanted to share a little story about my Scar Kakishibu🤎

”Iv had a hard time posting this, I don’t know how to write and give this one justice, and my road for me to been able to obtain this. It’s a bit of a story.

It all began a few years ago when I found out about engineers boots and particularly Wesco boots. I like to learn, search and pretty much educate myself about stuff I’m interested in. So I look online, at pictures, reviews, videos, and asking people on instagram the dumbest question there is just because I love to learn. So hours of internet browsing I found myself looking at videos on YouTube. I quickly both found out about and realized TJ at the shop Vancouver was/is one big gem in this world. His dedication, professionalism and genuine personality showcasing the stuff he was personally invested is blew me away. I love creative people and passion in general. With a background in snowboard and developing, forming, and evolving into a motorcycle inspired heritage workwear business. I was hooked. TJ is the man! His knowledge, personality, and lovely character made me love him too! I knew I wanted to support him someway and someday own a piece I could love for years! Through TJ I then learned about Y2 Leather and their stuff. I quickly fell for them as a company, quality and the stuff they made! It was an art form! Quality, function, esthetically beautiful pieces of wearable art! And the dream was born! I needed one myself!

I early fell for the Kakishibu leather, I just loved the color of it. But my style has always been drawn to the slightly more workwear/chore coat inspired jackets. So in the back of my mind, I even in the beginning said to myself, that leather would been amazing in a workwear styled jacket. A few years passed, and one morning skrolling on my phone, my heart stopped.
TJ had teased about an upcoming collaboration piece with Y2 leather called the “chore shirt” in a rough out camel colorway. A jacket build on Y2 leather work shirt, but dressed with a chore jacket layout.

It was the right layout, but in the wrong leather. I never stopped dreaming and thought if only the KB-140-T and the chore
Shirt could make a love child, it would be my absolute dream jacket. A chore shirt in a Kakishibu leather. Imagine the pure amazingness!
More time passed, and same as before, one morning waking up and scrolling on my phone. I had to sit up, I probably held my breath for a minute. Before bursting into excitement! There it was, I couldn’t believe my eyes! It was a chore shirt in a Kakishibu color. Also now lined with an added interior pocket. It was too good to be true! It just had to be mine!

I had saved money for over 2 years, manifested the dream for real one year, and waited 7 months for my dream to be made into reality!
On the first released I missed out and was devastated. But on the 19 October 2024 I managed to buy a preorder slot for 2025 release. Out of just 10 preorders and 15 total jackets made. I remember holding my breath and waiting for the phone to buffer through the payment. Felt like the world stood still. And in a few seconds that felt like an eternity the payment went through! I could not believe it, I was awake alone in the middle of the night just for the occasion. I remember I couldn’t sleep that night because I was so happy. Filled with emotions and excitement I had finally managed to create this opportunity and make it into a reality! 7 months later, I opened the package and there it was, my dream! The Scar Kakishibu chore shirt in all its glory and it was mine!

This is a jacket that means so much more to me than “just” being a jacket. It’s a dream, an accomplishment, a for ever piece maybe one of my kids get to inherit when they grow old enough. It’s a jacket I will wear with love and pride more than anyone could probably ever understand. It’s pricy yes, but worth every penny? oh hell yes! This is my dream! This is my jacket! And I’m damn proud of it! It’s a few pictures showing how it looks after some weeks of wear and sunbathing in the hot Swedish summer heat. Last pictures is to showcase how light the color was straight out of the box.
This became a smaller novel, but I feel like a text can’t give it justice for the meaning and how it actually feels in hand. Thanks TJ for being an absolute gem of a person! And thanks to Y2 leather for creating some of the most impressive pieces iv ever had the honor to experience.

This will be loved for a long time, and I will wear it with pride!🤎”

Some scar Kakishibu chore shirt appreciation! Took it out from its winter rest. The weather has changed so much in the northern part of Sweden recently, so it could finally be back in the rotation!🤎

Never been released in a black denim before. The SJ denim Townes in a black warp/black weft 11oz Japanese denim.

@Bobcat-Sig its unfortunate for sure.. but sadly the reality of the brand.

They are a very small business, and way too hype.. and the combination of the two makes it very hard to obtain.

I mean at a drop of 30-50 shirts and 500-1000 people trying. There will be a lot of sad faces..

And as time goes their hype grows, but the supply doesn’t increase with that big of a margin. Mike even said he likes the small company vibe and never had an intention of growing into something harder to handle and maintain.

Heck we are all in the same boat, and respectfully I don’t say that to make your feelings any less meaningful. I truly feel for you and relate very much.
I tried on the Kristofferson on every chance I got
For three years with multiple fails. And on the fourth year, fourth release I succeeded:)
I failed on Ramblin jackets, shirts and other stuff. But the stuff I own is my most worn clothes.

For me it’s worth it, the stuff they make is incredible. But I can truly relate to the feelings of hopelessness.
Much love for everyone on both sides of the company. It’s always frustrating wanting something and it being almost “impossible” to obtain.

Iv been through an idea to try something in that weight range, or jump down to the 14oz alternative. But the 18oz really intrigued me🫶

Very interested in these pairs! Would owners of these say they are rather soft and breathable for its weight?

I own the XHSib 666 and want a pair I can rotate with that’s lighter but not too light. Would like a denim that’s softer and not as warm

@tvaillant75 Ship John being such a small company stuff doesn’t get restocked very often. Most of their stuff is one timers.

But a few stable pieces have gotten more frequent priority. But it’s still between 1-3 years before an item may or may not come back. And you never know when or if, until Mikes starts to give subtle hints online:)

This recent broken twill Ramblin jacket got released 2 July 2026. And before that a Japanese selvedge version was released back in 2023. So that took around 3 years to “come back” in a slightly different variant.

So no one ever knows when, or if an item will come back. Best is to follow their instagram, their newsletter on their website. Or look secondhand on eBay or similar platforms. There is a group on Facebook called Speakeasy, where there are likeminded ship John fanboys talking and selling stuff between each other for fair (not eBay prices). Many people find their luck there.

But Ship John is hard to get. They make few, have a big audience, a lot of hype over the years. So on their hot drops they always sell out in seconds.
It’s having some sort of shop pay app ready, setting an alarm, being ready and pray for the internet gods for success

@FlavourFade amen to that! I started experimenting after hearing the mighty Bjorn talk about layers and the amazing versatility of different sizes for different occasions.

So after that iv pushed my comfort zone and bought a few jackets In slightly larger sizes to be able to layer with. Or as you said, wear oversized for comfort or sometimes more form fitting. It’s great! I’m glad I took the advice! Makes the wardrobe feel more versatile and it opens up more options

@Darth-fader yeah I get that, landing in the land “in between”. It’s always a hard back and forth on what size will fit the best for what you like it to be.
My Y2 scar Kakishibu chore is in that realm. The 42 is pretty much perfect for what it is, it’s a little snug to button up if I have layers underneath. But I mostly wear it open.

But if I had sized up, I would not have like the length of it. So for me the length is often the factor that makes me hate or love it. Iv just learned to appreciate slightly longer shirts then I liked before, because of SJ.
So with my denim Townes in large, it’s was HUGE brand new on me, on every aspects. But I trusted the process. And after a hot wash it became perfect. My favorite shirt. A little long maybe, but nothing that bothers me anymore.

But I understand sizing is often a struggle. It’s for me too. Iv been very lucky with all my SJ purchases that they fit me rather good. Just meant I appreciate and get hyped on everyone wearing SJ no matter the size of the person. I don’t think a certain body type always makes them look better. More like, if you find a fit that makes you feel great, it often shows up, and makes you look that too

I don’t know, for me personally I don’t think so. I know a few taller, big fellas that actually in my mind look’s better in SJ then me, just because Mike likes long shirts. So with my build many SJ uppers is not flattering for me because I’m short/medium guy. (174cm = around 5’9”)
And they easily looks way to long. But iv heard Mike said most shirts at least are supposed to be easy to hem. So if you are a wider bigger body but need them shorter, hemming is always an option.
For me iv kind of learned to live with the length on many items. But in a dream I would very much like to hem some shirts too.

I don’t know, everything is personal preference and everyone likes to wear stuff differently. Me personally always gets hyped seeing people rock SJ no matter the body type or size. Sometimes maybe small alterations would make stuff perfect, but I think that’s part of the game. So brand have ever manage to perfect a fit for every possible body type. I think that would be a hard challenge, if not impossible
