I’ve been lurking for a little over 6 months since I got my first 21oz 666s. Love them, the brand and the forum. Got a couple of waffle henleys and the 17oz duck untucked CPO since too. I really want a pair of the UHR, I was particularly drawn to the story of these looms and the family that made the fabric, it’s a big part of what drew me to IH. My problem is, I’m also about 3 months into a fitness/lifestyle and weight loss change and have no idea how successful it’ll be and what shape I’ll become. I don’t think it’ll be drastic changes but I think I could well be a different guy in 6-12 months. Very tempted to get myself a pair of these 888s that can be a target/reward for the work I’m putting in, in the hopes they fit my future frame. It’s a risk. It’s a healthier risk than betting against myself though and ending up in jeans that are too big. Was hoping to have a low cost month. Oh well.

@DaveC I remember a few years ago when I was on a weight loss kick, I was toying with the idea of buying myself a medium sized t-shirt to eventually hit it, well 3-6 months later and continued gym/diets I went and bought it and low and behold it fit! Good to have ideas, if you set realistic goals you can achieve them... These are also not going to be produced again (UHR fabric) so that might mean something to you too...

Good luck on the journey 🙂

@Phil_NYC better to be a tad more loose than the opposite. I’d say check out the rest of the measurements, make sure you lean towards the one that would suit your thigh best. Also, if leg opening is a factor due to certain boots maybe sizing up would be better also.

@worn2fade you notice stretch beyond original raw measurements?

Wondering this too. I usually buy at 36” and then it stretches out to a comfortable dimension.

So with the raw denim, if I measure my worn-in sanforized pairs and they are measuring 37” after all the stretch, I should shoot for a 37” with the raw pair?

I think the best advice is to shoot for 37” in your case. 36.5” minimum. (Size chart sizing.)

EDIT: cause grabbing a 37” measurement one will drop it down to 36” and it shouldn’t stretch out more than it needs to. Just make sure all the other measurements are good for you.

@worn2fade appreciate that man. I laid out
my most worn pairs tonight and they measure about 37.5-37.8” in the waist, so it seems like I’ll want to use those dimensions as a starting point. It’s a bit of an uno reverse from typical sanforized sizing but the size charts seem to suggest this is the right strategy. Thanks to you and others I think I’ve wrapped my brain around it 🙌

@RamblinRich just as an example of recent 888-xhsib tag 34 was 34.2" waist. Both me and worn2fade asked for big waist and got 34.6".

One thing that I noticed is that the front rise of these seems to be a bit higher than all my other 888s of the same size. Will this shrink at all in the first wash?

@Luke_is_back The best way to pick a pair of UHR jeans is to find a pair that matches your ideal measurements upon purchase.

They will shrink upon the first wash, the waist will stretch back out to pre wash measurements, the thighs will stretch out some. The length will not.

Edit: sizing up may not be ideal especially depending on what you’re comparing it to. Also, sizing up often leads to a pair that are too big when they stretch back out.

A pair too big out of the bag often leads to jeans that will always be too big.

@Luke_is_back I went up one size based on the measurements and did a hot wash in the washing machine on delicate cycle. They shurk perfectly and fit great with a little stretch they have after. I personally like washing my unsanforized pants with hot water to get them as dense as possible to help with wear and tear for the future in my experience.
