Fraudsters

@goosehd Yeah it definitely was spam, I mean he could have just posted in the GAH thread "Hey check out this on reddit!" I'm sure if anyone on here that had some forum activity did that it would have been fine..., but DMing people individually to try promote it was not the way to go about it... Wouldn't be surprised if there's a sales section on the sub and he's trying to pull a fast one! (although I might just be jumping to conclusions)

Got their message too. Understand the rules and quick action to ban, but wondering if they've learned their lesson? Permanent bans with no chance to learn from the mistake are pretty harsh. Saying this as someone who mistakenly violated a forum rule once and got told what I did wrong immediately by DM. Honestly I just didn't see that rule thread, apologized immensely, took responsibility for not seeing it (ignorance is no excuse), and have tried to do better.
Basically, the mods don't need any of our blessing to take action, but maybe they'd be worth a second chance if they respond the right way to the situation. You know, in that whole spirit of trying to build a really cool and accepting corner of the Internet.

@pechelman …and why it’s being discussed in the mod area.

Was the ban because he was promoting his Reddit page via DM and not in a thread? I’m curious if him doing it in the Good Art thread would have kept him in good graces?
I also got his message. I had already joined his Reddit because he had promoted it on the Facebook. Good art group previously. To me, he seemed like a well-meaning guy who was genuinely passionate and trying to share a Reddit group he created. He didn’t come across as a spammer or scammer to me.
I’m just curious for my own knowledge, if I started a little maker business or new Reddit page, and wanted to share it with my friends here, how would I go about doing that without getting banned?

@Go-For-Chill New member, zero posts, pm’ing people asking to join, didn’t ask for permission, could have posted in the GAH thread that he started up a Reddit page, simple introduction would have been nice, etc.
There are more than a few red flags there.

Personally, I would have the good grace to ask whether it was OK. I'm sure he wouldn't be over the moon if I signed up on his reddit page (though I am more likely to ask the someone to slowly grate my testicles with a cheese grater, than to sign up for anything on reddit) and randomly dm his members about joining another brands forum/FB group/other thingy.....

I agree, if this was his first and only post then his business here was not to interact in the way the forum was designed. Even if his intention was to only recruit people for his sub Reddit and not for scamming purposes, that’s not what the forum is for. I’m sure if he were a previously established member who did this the outcome would have been a little different.

Same guy DM’d me through this forum and Instagram lol.
