Yeah same with crawfish. It’s kind of as much about the boil culture as it is the actual protein. And the protein is more about the texture and the boil than the flesh of the animal IMO. And the potatoes, corn, sometimes mushrooms, etc in the boil are a part of it too.
When it comes down just to the flavor of the meat, that’s what I was getting into above. I’ll take a stone crab claw over Maine lobster. And they’re nice and meaty and usually come ready to eat so the labor factor isn’t high.

@WhiskeySandwich at work I got a strong reaction from guys when I talked shit about OB and crab and ze tiny wooden hammers.
-
@steelworker lol everyone likes different things, but we agree on the silly hammerz
-
@WhiskeySandwich Im full of shit on this one, if its out of salt waterI’ll give it a shot.
Just so Im not buttonholed by ranting crab defenders -
@mclaincausey I’m with you on the stone crab. I grew in a part of Florida that had a big stone crab fest every year. LOVED it! 15 or so years ago, I played in a band that was playing the fest, and had them pay me in unlimited stone crab at the fest from a place called Frenchy’s.

This one might be an unpopular opinion for some people: I'm pretty sure paracetamol and autism are not really associated at all.

(D‘Antinio, et al. (2026); The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology, & Women’s Health, for full free article see here)
nb: for all New World inhabitants. Paracetamol is the active ingredient in what your manufacturer sells you under the brand name 'Tylenol'.

And called acetaminophen. I was puzzled when I moved to Canada, the name was different

-
“Acetaminophen you see the medicine oh girl
You have no faith in medicine “ -
This is an ignorant post, so apologies in advance.
This question is probably directed to the Brits.
What's the deal with Good Art jewellery? What makes it more fanboy for you than Courts and Hackett, The Great Frog or Crazy Pig Designs?
-
@Bridger I'm in the UK and don't normally wear jewellery, I only got a few pieces of GAH and it's mainly because of the posts I see on here/the fact that IHUK stock it... I guess I'm more of an Iron Heart fanboy than GAH, but it just complements the outfits with the silver accessories

-
Love is always a legit answer

Not a Brit but wouldn't kick a Courts & Hackett Reptilian ring out of bed. I had wanted a Model 31 but the C&H is much more interesting.

Ha, I have the reptile ring - it's badass. If I am not wearing it, sometimes I come home and it's in bed with cocaine and hookers.
But what can you expect from the makers of Keith's ring

It’s a cool ring. Wish I hadn’t seen it.
I thought that too. But years later, when I finally committed, it's perfect, different, can take a knocking and often gets comments/questions.
Cool brand history and creds. Their serpent bracelet in the V&A is pretty elaborate too.

I’m not British, but for me it’s the design aesthetic and the craftsmanship. The craftsmanship is hard to understand until you get it in hand, but the quality of work is unbeatable.
The design is also very well thought through. Think of it like the difference between a Porsche and a BMW. Both are quality. Both perform the function. However, there is just something about the Porsche that is globally acknowledged as beautiful.
GAH is like the Porsche of the jewelry world.
Is a Koenigsegg more technically impressive? Sure. Is a Honda more reasonable? Absolutely.
Is a BMW better value for the money? Undoubtedly. But I don’t care. My heart still wants the Porsche, and there are certain times when I let my wallet follow my heart. Same goes for Good Art.I buy it because it makes me happy.

@Bridger This is just a quick thought on top of my head so probably doesn't sound the most structured.
Never heard of Courts so I won't comment on that.
IMHO I don't feel much depth in Crazy Pig's design, Great wax moulds but in terms of all the designs it doesn't feel like a cohesive "brand" that tells a story or represent a community, it almost just feels like they are making what evers they feel like on their mind at the time, and I feel like there's better options in the market, it's like"yet another skull ring" , the elements they use it just feels very traditionally "gothic" its almost predictable and boring.
TGF has some really cool pieces and compared to crazy pig it certainly feels more original or like a brand. But speaking of the design aspect, I feel like some pieces are very lazy, and some elements can be fine tuned. For me its like, If I knew a brand like Goodart exists that simply makes better stuff, let say a chain with original and cool clasp/closure, why would I choose TGF? Yes there's prices differences for the same thing but I do think this is when the product itself is actually worth the mark up. P.S now the TGF is charging £3k for a 9kt gold bracelet that is just rediculous lol.
GoodArt prices since the Jan 2026 increase makes the brand less appealing/harder to get into for sure, but for people that got into it earlier (2015 or earlier), they were way more reasonably priced and were making great stuff (still are), there's simply not an alternative to GoodArt in terms of the products they put out.
-
Thanks for your post @Go-For-Chill that all makes sense.
The reason I suggested it was a question for the Brits was really to understand if they are aware of these other jewellery makers, whether they have their stuff as well as GAH or if they pass them over for GAH and if so, then why?
PS I'd take a Ferrari over the Porsche

Thanks for your post @kaacy1721 - I found this comment very interesting - I think that is a good point if you want to pick up more than one piece
