@sabergirl our power went out Sunday morning at 6am. Still out now. My house it at the bottom of a big hill, too. So when it gets icy we’re just kinda stuck down there until it all melts. We stuck it out until this morning with our gas fireplace going every couple hours and cooking meals on the grill outside, but we finally just hitched a ride to an Airbnb with power and heat 10 mins away. Got to be too cold inside the house.

Every single year we get a big snow storm in mid Jan to mid Feb that shuts the roads and the city down for a few days, but usually we still have power. I work in hifi medical simulations, so when power is back up, we’re probably going to have a solid week of just resetting and recalibrating stuff. Ugh.

Anyways, yes I’m a fan of TNG for cold weather gear! We also have two North Face stores in Nashville. One at Green Hills Mall with all the fancy fashion trendy stuff, and one at the outlet mall in Opry Mills that has more of the staples and core stuff that I like better. I’ve also seen some higher end north face stuff at TJ Maxx around Oct-Dec, like $800 jackets for $150.

      Wants List:
      IHSH-20-Red, XL
      IHSH-208-Indigo Kersey, L-XL
      IHSH-254-Grey Kersey, L-XL
      IHSW-45 Black, M
      IH-526SV 21oz type III, 38 or 40
      IH-777S-SB size 32
      IH-777S-142 size 31 or 32
      IHJ-142-BLK or IND, M

Dang, I’m glad to hear that you’re warm and safe now, @chrisjohnnick . Are you supposed to get any more weather this weekend?

Also, I would looove to find a TNF jacket at frickin’ TJ Maxx! I don’t really have the stomach for the place, any more. Too crowded at all times

@sabergirl we’re in decent shape. It’s cold and we’ve got about an inch or two of ice on everything but no major disruptions.

@chrisjohnnick I hope at least the Air BnB is nice. We’d love to have a fireplace right about now. The ones on Netflix just aren’t doing the trick.

I saw some ads recently for Japan inspired TNF jackets. I’ll try to finds some pics. They looked pretty cool.

Oof that’s a lot of ice, @Matt. Glad to hear the power didn’t go out for a long time. That’s what we fear the most in these winter storms. I don’t have any alternate heat in the house.

The purple label line with Nanamica that TNF only releases in Asia looks crazy good, to me.

It looks good on you! The last few days have been damn cold here and I pulled out my puffy vest to wear under my coat to stay warm. For years that was my winter coat of the Denali with the puffy vest over top.

Nope @Matt . But I did get a purple label 100% wool pile fleece. I expect it’ll be crazy warm for where we live, but since it’s been below ten degrees the past two weekends, who knows?!

@Matt Me neither! It’s bound to be oversized—from what I’ve seen, they’re meant to be. I found a large on depop. I hope it’s not comically huge, just cozy.

@jordanscollected I keep trying to tell myself to stop collecting and giving into the rampant consumerism but I’m weak 😫

When Katie and I first met I was a hopeless and reckless compulsive spender and she was as tight as an oyster. I still love to spend and she’s still pretty cheap but we’ve definitely influenced each other for the better eg. she owns IH jeans and I have IRAs.

It’s more the philosophical component that gets me. I have always been a collector of things. I get great joy from owning them, but I also really like the hit of dopamine brought on by coveting something new, desiring it, pulling the trigger, and then the rush of when it arrives. But, like many, after that hit, then I’m seeking the next. Addictive behavior, for sure.

But—I’d like to live my life differently. I think the rampant consumerism of well-to-do folks like myself is the primary driver of environmental and societal degradation.

I believe this—but I’m also lazy and when it comes to making lifestyle changes or depriving myself of anything….usually a non-starter.

I suppose that type of dismissive and cynical judgement is just giving myself permission to continue my behavior without truly engaging with trying to change.

I know I’m not the only one.
