got the Pisgah Range laces today , so I start wearing the Coupen tomorrow. They came with leather laces but I don’t like those kind of laces in general so I needed something better.
      Think they look awesome 👏

Good afternoon all. Does anyone have any input on what they think the better buy is between a pair of Casper's in black horsehide, or a pair of Lofgren
el capitan or combat boots in black cxl. Pricing is pretty comparible. I know styling is pretty different amongst the 3, but I love the look of all 3, and the Casper and El Capitan kind of look the same from the top down.

Basically I'm wondering for those who have handled both, for a similar price point, what's the better buy?

Also, how is the durability of the side zipper on the Casper boots? Is it a concern long term? I have never owned zipper boots.

@Johnnyutah247 they are all very different and hard to compare. Out of the box the JL will both be more comfortable without any real break in from my experience with their boots. Also I think they are more versatile and can be worn for more occassions. Also the caspers look a little bulky and maybe even "clown shoe" from the get go. Anyway for me personally the RDT are way cooler, more special and have amazing patina potential. I feel they are not easy to size correct because they are long but a little narrow, also laceless boots have to fit perfect from the start to be comfortable at least that's what I feel. The insole is very flat and hard and don't give a lot of support but I found them to be very nice to wear. The zipper is heavy duty don't worry about that. Don't get fooled by the idea of side zippers being nice and fancy the caspers are tanks

@Johnnyutah247 sorry I can't comment on the comparison with the other boots (as I haven't tried them) but my RDT Caspers arrived today and all I can say is they are an incredibly nice boot, you can't really go wrong with them.

Thanks gents. Safe to go 1 full size down from my brannock or nike running shoe size (11)? I Have average width feet I believe. I take a size 10 in viberg 2030 last , size 10 in Alden Indy, size 10.5 in red wing moc toe.

@Johnnyutah247 I am a Brannock 10E and very low volume and low instep feet. I take a Viberg 2030 last in a 9, but can also do 8.5.

I own RDT Caspser in a 8.5 and and 9(my first pair). I prefer the fit on the 8.5. 9s I have to put in an insert as it's too big for me.

Alden Indy I'm a 9 in Barrie and True Balance. Perfect for me.

If you have a wide foot and high instep, you're probably good with one size down from Brannock so take a 10? Just my recommendation.

@Johnnyutah247 I would say definitely safe. You might even find that a little big but going any smaller would be too risky, I’d bet. I’ve found that of all the heritage shoes/boots I’ve tried that run bigger than brannock/sneaker size, RDT run the biggest. Or Caspers, at least — haven’t tried any of their others (though I’d love to).

                    10.5 in Trubalance and 2030
                    11 in chuck 70s
                    11.5 vans old skool

10 in RDT…with room to spare.

I'm a 10.5 in both chuck 70's and vans old skool and authentic. In addition to being a 10 in my 2030 and trubalance ( both fit on tighter side and I can't use thick socks) I might try the 9.5. I'm conflicted.

I just measured my feet and at the longest they're about 11.2 inches and widest about 4.1 inches

                        Brannock 8.5D
                        Alden Plaza 8.5D
                        Alden Trubalance 8D
                        Viberg 2030 8

Based off of recommendations I received, I went with 7.5 for the Casper’s. I really wanted to love them, but the 7.5 was way too small for me. I’d say I have pretty generic feet. But there’s no way going 1 whole size down from Brannock would’ve worked for me. I ended up selling them for a huge loss. I might try a size 8 one day, but I’ll have to try them on before purchasing. If that’s a possibility for you, I’d highly recommend going that route.

9 in the caspers. Was a little bit narrow to start with but ended up comfortable. 9.5 would probably have been to long.

After much deliberation I decided to go with the 10. Which is 1 full size down from brannock and my trainer size. Id rather have a little extra room then them be too tight, I was considering buying the 9.5 as well and returning the pair that didn't fit, but I'm located in NY and I got them from Rivet and Hide so shipping would have been a lot.

The finally came. I will update later on with some pics. The fit is great. Glad I didn't go down anymore in size. They are comfortable straight away, and give
me a little extra room for thicker sock. This last fits my foot great and is just as comfortable Alden Indy boots which were previously my most comfortable.

I'm on a phone and cannot figure out how to link a url for the life of my without my entire text getting messed up but doesn't anyone know the difference between the horsehide Casper's sold by rivet and hide for 895$ and the ones sold by butterscotch LB for 1,1,00$ as far as I can tell there both an Italian teacore horsehide.

The difference could be tariffs? Lovely boots - I had a look at a pair last time I was in R&H. I posted the links for you below.
