curious to know how these stretch vs UHR. my tag 32 UHR went from 33.25" in the waist to 32.25" after the initial soak/wash. after about a year of wear, roughly 290 days (lost count once i stopped wearing daily in the hotter months) they are at about 34" in the waist. currently getting their first wash (long overdue, i know.) anyway, looking for a new pair to fade this fall/winter and XHS is high up on the list, but i'm wondering if i could expect similar stretch with XHS as my UHR. i love how the UHR fit right now and it looks like a tag 33 in XHS would get me a similar fit as my UHR. for those of you with both, do you size up for XHS?

@indigo_nico I’ve never had a pair of XHS shrink more than probably about .5 to 1” in the waist, and usually they stretch back out to the original chart dimensions, maybe a little more. My advice is always to get a pair that fits you well before you wash. FWIW I don’t put mine in the washer, rather just the tub with the tap on full hot, so you could get a bit more shrink if you go the washing machine route. Regardless, what I’ve heard from others seems to be the same effect of returning to OG chart size and maybe a wee bit more.

Edited to add that my UHRs stretched out more after the first wash, on a similar level to what you experienced.

Hoping to get some help with sizing. I have a pair of 21oz 634 overdyed in a size 40 that I wore for the summer. Love them, but the waist has doubled over and basically stretched out in a bad way, and the crotch area is very “cross hatched”. I love the fit minus the waist. In reality they don’t have any extra material in the thigh/seat/crotch, hence why they are on the path to wearing out early. Here’s my dilemma:

I recently purchased a pair of XHS 634 in a size 42. The waist fits great, way better than the OD’s ever did, so I feel like I nailed it there. Everywhere else is way too baggy with more material than I care for.

If I hot soak these, is it possible that the thighs and other areas will shrink down to my liking? Is the better option finding a size 40 with a waist that measures on the larger side? Finally do I try a 633 or 666 cut in a 42?

Thanks for getting in touch. A hot soak may shrink the thighs and seat temporarily but with wear you can expect them to stretch back out.

Your best option is likely to find a size 40 pair with a naturally larger waist measurement, since the leg and seat fit in that size seems to work for your body. Alternatively, you could try a 633 or 666 cut in size 42. These are slimmer through the thigh and leg than the 634, so they may give you the waist room you need without all the extra fabric below. Just make sure the thigh and seat measurements still work for you so you don’t run into the same wear issues you had with the overdyes.

                            I hope this helps!

                              Hi everyone, noob question:

These 25oz jeans look incredible. I noticed in the description that they’re expected to shrink by around an inch in the waist and inseam after the first wash. I was wondering — do most people wear them as they come, or do they wash them first to get shrinkage out of the way?

Also, if they are washed prior to wearing, does that accelerate the rate at which they fade?

@Damocles I soaked m for an hour and worn m when they were dry again. There are some tricks to loosen up the buttonholes, look around here and you’ll find tons of m.

The shrink in the waist will stretch back out in o time. And they get comfy quick enough.

If I’m correct the soak/wash is also advised to set the stitching a bit. Don’t know if it accelerates the fading. That just takes time I guess 😉

                                  Enjoy!

Ah, perfect — since the fading isn’t accelerated, I’ll give them an initial wash or soak to set the stitching and take care of the initial inseam shrinkage. Is there a significant difference between running a gentle wash cycle with low spin and simply soaking them?

Finally, do you have any recommendations for caring for the leather patch on the back (the one showing the cut and size) during the first wash? I’d like to avoid it creasing or warping awkwardly 🙏🏻

Hello to all fellow IH forum brothers/sisters. I am wearing my 25oz 634s for the past 2 months for indigo invitational and I have been pretty much wearing them for doing anything like walking and cycling, to work and for daily use.

I only notice just now that the crotch area seam threads (the image I attached) seems to be a bit loose, and the fabric around it is fraying a little too. Is this early sign of crotch blowout?

Should I send it to my denim repair guy to repair/ reinforce the area? Or is it like a normal thing to happen for these heavy ounces pair?

I’m sorry if this is a newbie question. It’s my first really heavy (and raw) pair of jeans that I own.

Any advices would be really appreciated. Thanks guys.

Edit: I did an initial 1 hour soak in cold water while wearing them in a tub before I officially start wearing them.
