IHSH-295-IB - 14oz Selvedge Denim Western Shirt - Indigo/Black
-
Bought one more 🫣. First one from IHUK with snap upgrade from this release. Brund CPH had one XL left when I dropped by yesterday. I have sold many of my flannels since I find myself wearing the darker mono colour shirts more often than UHFs. This 295-IB fits me so well and can we agree it’s two completely different shirts with or without the snap upgrades, right -
How long does this take to soften up similar to 12oz?
-
@Gavin666 will it? The 12 and 14oz denims seem more dissimilar than similar to me
-
@Gavin666 don’t think they are easily comparable like that.
My 295ib have slightly soften up over the wear iv gotten in, but it’s slightly softer to what it was brand new. But not as soft as a lighter completely different fabric…
️
There is probably no easy answer here. But the more you wear, soak, wash eventually the fabric will soften up to what the fabric has potential to be. No fabric is identical to any other. And same fabrics used by different people, will differ in feel and looks a lot too in my experience.
Dont overthink it, just wear the crap out of it

I agree with the others' sentiments. Kind of like comparing a t-shirt to a polo.
They can both be pretty comfortable, but the polo will never feel quite comfortable enough to wear to bed like a tee.

@twin looking great buddy! You feeling better lately?
-
I'm wearing mine today. I've been wearing it 4-5 days a week since it dropped. No washes yet - it's winter here so it's not smelling despite the wear. Starting to get a few pops of colour around the cuffs, but still miles to go.
It's softened, but it's not soft. Still pretty hefty. I think it'll take some more time and a couple of washes to really break in.

Finally got my hands on mine after a move. I tried really hard to make the right sizing decision on this one. More times than not nowadays XLs seem to be my choice. With this sizing chart it looked like the L would be big enough to work. The shirt I received measures a hair smaller than what I was quoted, and initially I thought it might be too snug. But after spending 5 mins more with it, it could be right. In an ideal world it’s a hair looser all around with this tough a fabric. Would appreciate any thoughts on this - whether it’s a keeper or if I should initiate a return.
-
@americanathreads that’s the fit I would go for, do you think the XL would be too big? Length, shoulders and sleeve length looks good to me on the large.
-
@americanathreads Looks great in my opinion! But only you know how it feels wearing it.
(And personally I like having shirts with a bit of a different fit, some a bit tighter, some a bit looser. Others may prefer the same fit on everything)
-
@americanathreads That's a perfect fit IMO. Once it breaks in and relaxes, it's going to fit like a glove.
-
@ZackB I think the XL could work too (would've need a shorter sleeve though), as slightly more of an overshirt. Length and sleeve are good, shoulders are just a hair tight, but if it loosens up a bit it might be ok.
@JunkPants thanks! Yes true. Brand new, it feels slightly snugger than I'd want it to fit (after breaking in).
@Go-For-Chill thanks man - appreciate it! Did you find that yours relaxed and gave you a little extra room?
Thanks all for the input! Crucial info for this one
-
@americanathreads I think this fabric might stretch and relax a bit, so as long as you're not washing aggressively or in hot water it should be fine. The initial fit looks good imo.
-
@americanathreads looks spot on right now. I did notice a little shrink when I cold machine washed mine. Nothing crazy. But it did snug up a little.
Btw…how’d you embed that little video clip?
-
@Mizmazzle good to know - thanks! Did it loosen back up after with some wear?
I saw @Go-For-Chill use one in his post in this thread and thought it was a great idea. So I googled a gif creator and used “Free Convert”. Upload a short video and it converts it.
-
@americanathreads congrats. this fit is ace. the shirt is perfect.
-
@americanathreads Mine did tighten up a little bit after the first wash as well. Not much though, and it didn't really change the fit in any meaningful way in my case.
This is such a good shirt, love the 14oz ib in a western.
-
@americanathreads I wouldn’t say that I gained any extra room after breaking in, but it did conform to my body and felt way more comfortable. These heavy shirts always feel a bit cloister phobic to me at first, but quickly conform and become like comfy armor.
