      @worn2fade I haven’t tried anything other than a t-shirt under it.

My chest relaxed is around 45”.

I have to have at least a 23” PTP on my shirts.

I lift weights and am more top heavy… (I need to do more more legs lol)

Comparing the jacket to my best fitting iron heart shirt these are the measurement losses I need for an exact match:

        1.25” shoulder loss
        0.25” chest loss
        1.25” arm length loss
        0.40” arm width loss

Considering I’ll be layering this shirt under it for example ima just trust the process. I doubt the shoulders will lose 1.25” since the shrink test was more around an inch after soaking and washing but I’m hopeful this will work out.

The last picture is how the shirt fits me.

Seems like you should just go for it! If you want to be sure to be able to layer shirts underneath. Turn it inside out, soak it through, get a hot wash done no spin and let ‘er rip

Special thanks to Alex F. for getting the measurements I needed! Fits just how I like my truckers. Highly recommend this jacket to anyone on the fence.

PS @worn2fade I soaked two 526Ls both within the the recommended IH temp (30-40C) 1hr, then into the machine for a gentle wash on cold no spin. Both jackets .5 inches off the shoulders, 1 inch off the length sleeves/body. Chest shrinkage was minimal.

I’ll prob do the hot soak and wash on hot as well to get the maximum I can out w/o including the dryer.

Just have to go to a laundromat, I have a top loading washer and I don’t want the agitator to mess anything up.

Dear denim brothers and sisters, I was pleased to see a lively discussion about the fit of this wonderful jacket from IH. Here is my humble opinion on the matter. Let me start by saying that playing with raw denim is always a gambling - no manufacturer can give you guaranteed results, it is always your own experiment. Another question is in what capacity are you going to use this jacket - if as a coat, of course you need a size up. If as a denim jacket, all you can wear under it is a shirt or a T-shirt. I don't see much point in shamanic dancing with a tambourine around the wrong size and in boiling the unfortunate jacket in boiling water. Just take your size, but that's another story. I'll tell you mine.
In the case of one washed denim, I'm quite happy with IH size L, but the thing is that raw denim L after soaking/washing does not exactly fit the L of one washed denim. It's somewhere in the middle, i.e. slightly larger than one washed L size. That's why I decided to take the M size as the closest to the L size one washed. The only measurement where I risk is the chest (P-2-P), but even if there is a little more shrinkage than I expect, I asked myself - how often do I wear a denim jacket buttoned up to all the buttons? Not often, extremely not often. This is my approach to the size of this jacket. You can, of course, have your own.

@worn2fade Don’t go by your shirt measurements when choosing a jacket, they are completely different. My type 3’s are all much smaller in the chest, waist and opening than my westerns or work shirts but it is still no problem to wear the jackets over my shirts. If you match your jacket measurements to your shirt measurements, you will probably get a very loose fitting jacket.
Also, this latest batch seemed to run a little big. I sized down from my usual L to a M.

These are estimates for shrinkage in percent, I think it’s fairly accurate.

Getting the biggest washer at the laundromat is the way to go. You also want to throw in all your old black tees or night clothes and black socks that you don’t care about getting stained in with it if you’re going to use the dryer. The jacket by itself will not tumble correctly in the dryer… it will just bunch up and get hung up on the side agitators. It needs other pieces of clothing to make it cartwheel through the cycle. My family used to own a laundromat and I worked there when I was a kid. People used to always come to the desk asking why their shirt or pair of pants was still damp when it was all they had in there…. They need other clothes to make them tumble.

@branpureza dude there is no way in hell I’m going to throw this jacket in the dryer haha. I appreciate the advice on that though.

When it comes to the laundromat, I heard that their machines typically don’t have a “no spin” cycle so isn’t that concerning?

@worn2fade We had Speed Queen equipment and no, they typically don’t. You can ask the attendant if they can manually stop the machine though.. it’s up to them. Sometimes I would have to manually stop a wash if someone closed the door on their clothing which prevented it to seal correctly, causing it to leak. They should be able to stop it for you. Just bring a garbage bag with you so it doesn’t leak all over the floor when you take it out wet.

@worn2fade No problem! Going by these pictures I would size down at least one size, maybe even two depending on desired fit.

Edit: Two sizes down may be too much on a second thought. Did you post measurements of this jacket?

@V-P I appreciate your input. Sizing down 1 does seem kind of valid but to me that’s probably best if I were to only wear a T-Shirt underneath and such. On this jacket the shoulders look pretty big but that’s my only real concern, the chest doesn’t seem too big when buttoned up (which I would wear my jacket button up’d often.)

I do plan on wearing my western/wabash underneath this and maybe when it hits the 30’s here in Florida (it’s rare but it happens,) I may throw a thicker fleece underneath. Not sure if I can pass with that with an XL.

@worn2fade i think this is the right size and agree with Oaktavia on this one. The shrink will bring this to a jacket that will fit comfortably over a flannel or hoodie, yet not look too baggy or oversized with a tee. If you want a trim fitting jacket for use over a t-shirt only ever, then I'd consider a single size down, not two.

It looks like you live in Florida, or somewhere very similar to where i grew up there, so while you might really only be wearing this over a t-shirt, I suspect you might enjoy a little extra room for airflow.

@worn2fade if you want a more fitted look, size down. Just depends how you want to wear it. The first jacket I soaked looked like that and for me it didn't shrink enough. I sized down and it fit close to how I wanted pre-soak, just a bit longer and slightly wider in the shoulders, but not huge on me. I can easily wear a thermal underneath and it fits how a like it. They just don't shrink much if you stay in the 30-40c range. If you like hoodies and thick denim shackets underneath, yeah maybe you're good.
