Ship John

Hello,
I’m super curious if any one in this group owns a Kristofferson jacket and what’s your take on it?It’s become a grail jacket of mine, iv tried and been unsuccessful on both releases of the jacket. Had it in my cart, Apple Pay ready but others was faster.
Mike has teased that more will be made this year and I’m gonna try me best again, maybe third time is the charmLatest release was sold at July 2024, so I had some hopes maybe it’s close now. But now one knows. It just sparked some excitement and I hyped myself up again about it. So I became wondering maybe people in this group owns one and have a genuine take on how they like the jacket..?
Oh well, would be a fun read if any one does, and wanted to share. Hope everyone have a great summer and remember to use sunscreen or lots of denim protection

Re the Kristofferson: There is a new color coming out this year (but I’m unclear whether they will offer it both in denim, and the other color, which I suspect to be black. To be clear, I don’t have any proof that it will be black, but the staff did confirm a new color when I visited the ship john store a few months back).
With regards to the jacket (with the caveat that I have tried a friend’s, but decided against buying one myself), it is essentially a Dehen product. I do think that the lining is truly superb. The denim is not as interesting as Iron Heart (in my opinion). The jacket itself is very warm, and consistent with the usual Ship John sizing patterns (which I think are a little less forgiving than other companies).
Overall, if you live in a particularly cold environment or run cold, and the jacket fits you, it’ll be a superb purchase. If not, you may find that it is just sitting in your closet.
Edir: forgot to add, I don’t believe that you can wash this piece like you can with the 17oz 526-SL with the polyester lining. If you would like to get a close approximation of what the material feels like, try to find this Dehen N1, which I believe has the same broken twill denim and mouton lining as the Kristerofferson:

@Buckeye ah thanks for a great read. I live in Sweden and our winter is pretty rough and cold. So a warm jacket is necessary, and iv tried different warm jackets from the most extreme once to even layering summer jackets.
So the Kristofferson I believe would be an amazing jacket for me! And if they don’t change the sizing, or pattern I would probably be a size Large in them. I have no chance to try, look or feel any Dehen products in Sweden unfortunately. We one store, way to far away from where I live and they only have some beanie and a cardigan in store. But iv seen pictures of the N1 your speaking of:)
If they change the color I both get excited and nervous, Iv wanted the regular Kristofferson since it got first teased. Tried to buy it both times it’s been released but failed when Apple Pay has been buffering
So I’m afraid of they would change it too much it may become something I’m not as excited for, but I understand it’s part of this game. Stuff often changes it part of it all. Best would be to offer it in more than one color, maybe both the regular and one new..? No one will know until we all know.
It was a great read and I appreciate you taking your time. I’m really curious and look forward to any update from Ship John on the Kristofferson jacket. And hopefully it’s gonna be an amazing addition like most of their stuff is!

Just a heads up to anyone who purchased the Flannel from Ship John that recently dropped.
I received mine, and I normally just throw everything new in the wash for sanitary purposes. I didn't take measurements, but before the wash, it was a little big on me wearing my normal Ship John size. I washed on cold but dried in the dryer on normal not thinking much of it. The flannel shrunk a bit a across the board, nothing major and fits a lot better/normal to my size in most areas, however the sleeve length shrunk on me too much. I went from the sleeves over my wrist to fitting about two watches on my wrist between the sleeve and my hand and it looks a little goofy on me now.
Sorry if any of this is hard to follow, I'm not the most technical
and could be a isolated event. But short story is, it seems like the sleeve length on this guy will shrink a significant amount if thrown in the dryer on regular. Might be best to hang dry this one.

@mecken88 I would absolutely love to get a kristofferson as it is right up my street, but to be honest with the ship John drops I have pretty much given up now as it seems impossible to ever actually purchase anything

@Darth-fader that’s exactly where I’m at with it.

@Darth-fader yeah I understand it’s frustrating, I can relate. Iv tried the Kristofferson on both releases, had Apple Pay ready and I could not have been quicker and still lucked out. Happend to me a few more time on their stuff. But I have also at the same time managed to buy some stuff, that’s easily my most liked and worn stuff!
it’s a small company doing their best to provide the best clothes they can, with the amount they can handle at the time of their different releases.
So probably everything from limited fabrics, time scheduling, having several different items planned throughout the year, and to find time to make everything, all stuff probably have a max numbers.
And I agree it’s frustrating, but at the same time also what makes them even so much more special. So I also wish the releases was easier to get a hold of, higher numbers, bigger batches so people had a bigger chance to buy their stuff.
But I think Mike also said it in a video once, that he likes being small. And have no intention expanding. So it’s one of those if you like their stuff you need to be quicker than Lucky Luke haha. But even so, you still need to have real luck on your side.So I’m still dreaming of the Kristofferson. So depending if they change it or not, if it’s the same or another color. I’m very interested, and if it’s still true to the original, I’m gonna do my best again

I have this idea that Mike would readily and happily produce garments exclusively for the folks within his community, if he could help it. I think he takes a lot of pride in being an Oregonian, and a Portland resident specifically. The clothes he makes are unabashedly in that style, and meant generally for the weather around Portland. Waxed canvas, heavyweight denim, flannels, moleskin, heavy sashiko, 16oz french terry, etc. shop exclusive events, shop exclusive drops, collaborations with Dehen, Langlitz, Huron, Beckel, et al.
I just don't think that keeps the lights on in this day and age. So he has to sell online, and metaphorically open his shop up to hundreds of people at once to fight over however many dozens of garments he could get sewn up over the month or so the garment has been in production for. -
Ship John’s recent little tease on their instagram of the upcoming Kristofferson jackets comeback. Looks like a Black n white filter been added to keep stuff interesting and unknown.
From the pictures something in my guts say the jacket and lining is a different color. What do you guys think? Anyone excited about this to be teased more?🫣

At this point, just tell us the colorway.
Makes me appreciate IH even more… when it’s time for the release, they’ll show the piece, the closeups, and an attractive British man will try it on for you as many times as you damn well please
