IH-526L - 19oz Left-Hand Twill Selvedge Denim Type III - Indigo

@jpvisual It’s not enough to just soak for maximum shrinking, it needs agitation too. If you want maximum shrinkage, use as hot tap water as you can get and agitate the jacket while soaking. Then put it in the washing machine on 40 degrees gentle cycle. You probably can use a low spin cycle too but I wouldn’t dare.

@sabergirl I didn't explain it well I think. The other jacket is a 526LOD in an XL. That fits well. The 526L is also an XL, but is a size too large for me. It's difficult to tell from the photos, but it's pretty big on me. The actual measurements post 40c soak are pretty close to what is listed on the size chart. So basically it didn't shrink much. The Large 526L measurements match the 526LOD XL I have much closer. Given that I didn't notice much shrinkage after a 40C 1hr soak, the Large would have been the correct choice. I was under the impression the indigo version would shrink to what the OD measurements were...or close, but it's not even close. A one inch difference in most of the measurements between the two, body length, chest, shoulders, etc. Even with differences across one size, that seems like a huge difference.

I still maintain the pics of you wearing both look good. There isn’t any home washing regimen that you could do that will match the heat and intensity of the OD process, but if you wanted to wash and tumble dry, you might still get the shrinkage you’re after. Just make sure the jacket is well-drenched before you do it.
-
@jpvisual The OD is fully shrunk from the start. The fabric needs heat AND movement/agitation to shrink fully. Try it again, with as hot water you can get, and whisk it around and squeeze it as much as possible while soaking.

I picked up the latest batch lod in my regular 3X and couldn't ask for a better fit. Currently have this batch of 526L in 3X drying after a 110F hour soak. Started off boxy as shit of course but that was to be expected. I'm expecting it will dry to fit as yours currently does. I think yours looks like it will work long term especially considering the thickness of the fabric. Any smaller and you may find a particular dimension too small with regular wear.

Thanks for the feedback all. I have not put it in the washer with or without spin, just the 40C soak. I guess that would be the next step. It still looks too big to me for a type iii jacket. I usually like to wear with only a t-shirt, but I can easily fit a 295 shirt under it. Hopefully I can get it to shrink a little more and hopefully it will look better after some wear too.

Are we all in favor of downsizing on the 526L?
-
@MassiveThighs every users experience may be different depending on how they are going to wear it.
Edit: Have you received your jacket? How did it fit?

@goosehd coming in on Tuesday!

In inches.
The 526Lod I tried in XL:
Shoulder: 18.750
Chest P2P: 22.250
Body Length: 26.250
Sleeve Length: 26.250
Waist: 19.750
Hem opening: 20The 526L in an XL I tried, after 2 soaks, each for 1hr @ 30C, then 40C.
Shoulder: 19.625
Chest: 23
Body Length: 27.125
Sleeve length: 26.5
Waist: 20.875
Hem opening: 21.125Both Jackets are from this most recent batch.
After doing this I would personally say, get the measurements that are closest to your best fitting jacket. It shouldn't be way over. Maybe that is widely known information, but I didn't know that. I assumed if both were from the same batch go with the same size. Measurements clearly matter more. I'm sure results may be widely different so take what I say with a huge grain of salt.

Got my XL (42) 526L yesterday and did a one hour hot soak in the tub and drip dry. I tried the jacket on and off throughout the drying process to help shape it out.
Pre-soak measurements:
P2P: 22.75”
Shoulder: 19.5”
Body Length: 27.75”
Waist: 21”
Opening: 21.5”
Sleeve: 27”
Cuff: 4.75”Post hot soak measurements (shrinkage):
P2P: 22.5” (-0.25”)
Shoulder: 19” (-0.5”)
Body Length: 27” (-0.75”)
Waist: 20.75” (-0.25”)
Opening: 21” (-0.5”)
Sleeve: 26.5” (-0.5”)
Cuff: 4.5” (-0.25”)I’m happy with the fit though this jacket seems to run long. It's very stiff so I'm planning to wear it and maybe hot soak it again down the road if I need to tighten it up further.

Last shot of the cast iron jacket before soak.
