As is widely known, I am not allowed to fish off SAKURA. I have been trying to work out a way to fix that, and I have a solution.

A few weeks ago, a boat that I had admired for ages in our Marina came up for sale. I had even specced a new one exactly the same about a year ago, but could not swing it financially (that is, get Paula to agree 🙂 )

I made an offer and it was accepted and I picked her up last night.

I am renaming her UKIYO: In Japanese, "UKIYO" (浮世) translates to "floating world" or "transient world". It describes the urban, pleasure-seeking lifestyle of Edo-period Japan. Essentially, "ukiyo" embodies a sense of living in the moment, appreciating fleeting pleasures, and being detached from the burdens of life.

One of the key deciders was that I can fit her onto our current pontoon, so whilst the bastards are still making me pay for the privilege, it is at a ridiculously low price. Insurance is very reasonable and she will cruise twice as fast as SAKURA and use half the fuel, so when we want a quick dash somewhere (especially somewhere that does not have berths big enough for SAKURA), we now have the means.

And she will be a brilliant platform for fishing in The Solent and neighbouring waters.

        Problem solved.

        Decals.

Great name @Giles. Another cool Japanese term and philosophy that I will try to incorporate into life.

@Giles sounds like the perfect solution and great name. Ukiyo is also the name of a distillery that may or may not help with detachment from the burdens of life! I’ve not tried it yet but they even do a sakura gin!

I absolutey love the name UKIYO. Sarina had to look it up when I told her, but she says it is absolutely perfect. It has also made me start reading, The Life of an Amorous Woman (and other writings by Ihara Saikaku, because I wanted to really understand the meaning and context of UKIYO. It is a fascinating read.

She can be 24 or 36. I've got a 24 volt Lithium which is good for 2 days without recharging. Obviously I could upgrade if I needed too.

I had 4 knots out of it the other day, and I think I had some current against me.

I absolutely LOVE the anchor feature.

@Giles I've always wanted to add the anchor feature to my Minn-kota, but the price is basically what my boat is worth. That makes it so easy to work the lily pads when I want to cover many parts of a small area without simply cruising by. It doesn't help that I dropped my trolling motor off the side of my boat a couple years ago on concrete (while driving, long story) and broke the skeg off it. Casting with efficiency and trolling a shoreline, especially in any kind of windy condition is an artform.

The other thing I like is that I can use gestures on the remote control. I just point it to where I want the boat to go press a button, and off she goes....
