The White Lotus: S1 > S2 > S3
I enjoyed S3 and some of the stories around social mobility, but felt the writing was not great overall.

I'm obsessed/in love with the concept and setting and could watch this show endlessly. But agree it's not the best of the three but I do think the finale was brilliant.
For me, S2 >
-
@mclaincausey I totally agree with you and was thinking that maybe The White Lotus had jumped the proverbial shark
. I stuck with it because I like Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood, who plays Rick’s girlfriend Chelsea. She’s really great in a Netflix series called Sex Education. In general I was glad it’s over, and now we’re on to The Righteous Gemstones.

@mclaincausey White Lotus is the best at the spaces in between the dialogue. Making the viewer sit and chew on the awkward and uncomfortable. I feel like this season had just as much of that brilliance as the first 2, but I agree that the linear story and solution/reveals/payoff fell short of expectation.
I am still absolutely going to watch season 4, and have been pondering potential locations for the next White Lotus resort.

It would be hard to get into my issues with the writing without spoilers but it wasn’t great IMO. I still enjoyed it as kind of an escapist thing and there was some interesting character development.

It’s things like the reveal of something that was evident since the third episode being handled in a very cheesy way as if they thought they got us on a twist, and then a few inexplicable and unrealistic acts by some characters that took a bit of shine off for me.

Watching The Last of Us - S2 premier... enjoying it so far.

I didn't mind The Residence, but it needed editing. It was 8 eps and could have been 4 eps, maybe 6 max.
The BBC are good at editing. You have to have a story, otherwise you are just selling ad space and wasting people's time.
Luther is a good example. Riveting TV, season one is 6 eps, the average of the other seasons is 4.
The BBC The Office was only two seasons of six eps each. The US had nine seasons and averaged 22 seasons. Raises the question of diminishing returns vs ad revenue.
White Lotus is another example that could have cut out a few episodes to improve the pacing. Season 3 in particular.

@DeeDee85 I had to think back to realize how much i enjoyed season 3 of WL. Once I stopped thinking about the story arc and just enjoyed the acting, it made it so much better for me. The "payoff" does not come from the linear story in any season of WL.
-
@jordanscollected Agreed, only the final episode left to watch now and I’m much more into it. Loved the first two seasons, just thought the third took a bit longer to get going. Acting has been top drawer across all 3. Which season was your favourite?
-
@DeeDee85 I think season 2 was my favorite, though it's hard to vote against a season with Daddario. Coolidge's character schtick got old for me and was leaned on too heavily.
-
@jordanscollected Can see where your coming from with that too, although Coolidge’s story is the main thread connecting the seasons, I too was quite relieved (and laughing my head off) when she swan dived from the boat
Looking forward to getting home from work today to watch the last episode.
