We are very well stocked in T3s, but less so in T1 and T2s, so perhaps we try one of those first

Fair. I don’t really care and wouldn’t be in the market for one, but just thought I’d share that Levi’s has done this very thing (type 3 hickory stripe) more than once—I was actually looking for a different model I’d seen when I found this one.

My personal opinion is that you’re going to have different fabric orientations with a type 3 due to the angular design. If it isn’t Wabash or hickory stripes askew, it will be the twill of the fabric itself. Just part of the deal when you have a design that isn’t orthogonal. upon inspection of my old T3 this is nonsense fabric is oriented uniformly across all the seams
