        @Tago-Mago I have no clue. I just know that apparently on the tv show Fear Factor that Joe Rogan hosted, they had to test people for shellfish allergies before the cockroach stunts because somebody had an allergic reaction while filming an episode.

          @Danimal506 possibly because of this:

          in short, cockroaches have a protein that is very similar to the shellfish protein, which may cause an allergic reaction

            Not saying I’d eat a cockroach (though that is certainly done in many parts of the world) but there’s nothing wrong with eating bugs or bottom feeders. I’ll definitely eat a cricket. If we are to survive long term, humanity is going to have to learn to eat bugs, algae, and other things that many of us might find unpalatable. We don’t have an endless supply of ahi and other delicacies.

            When it comes to seafood you’ll get less mercury eating at the bottom of the food chain and they’re delicious!

            Think it, be it.

                      Chapulines (crickets) is one of my favorite street snacks in Mexico. Fried in garlic and tossed with chile, lime and salt. What’s not to like?! They’re extra good sprinkled on guacamole.

                          @seawolf I can’t blame anyone for not getting it. It’s a learned skill. It’s a social food. A decent crab picker can get 2 full crabcakes worth in 5 minutes if rushed. It’s not just a meal it’s a tradition. Lobster is an easy copout 🙂 when Marylanders have a crab feast, it’s an event.

                            I was thinking more along the lines of what would I order at a restaurant; purely thinking about the food and not the trappings or event.

                              @WhiskeySandwich I just don’t love getting my hands dirty when I eat. And I don’t love crab enough for it to be worthwhile. It seems like a great social thing, but it’s not my thing.

                                    I definitely am mainstream on the wing thing, but if a sauce is good enough I’ll only dip every other bite. Has to be an exceptional dressing though.

                                        You don’t order crabs at a restaurant. You order them at a crab house. 🙄

                                        Once you know how to do it and with some practice, I can plow through a dozen in no time. Everyone does it just a little different but it’s a Maryland family tradition to pass down the ability to pick a crab clean while drinking cheap beer. Do not drink good beer with crabs. I passed it down to my kids just like my dad did for me.
