@Megatron1505 there are rules in place to stop anyone from becoming the next Man City? Is that to level the playing field so that nobody gets to that level, or so that Man City stays at that level and nobody can reach them?

Also, you've caught my attention. Newcastle United sounds like good candidate. Hmmm...

@AdamC This sounds like some top tier football! The Chicago Bulls in the 90s were a thing of legends as well. I'm not even a basketball fan, but there was an undeniable energy around the Bulls in the Michael Jordon years, and it's still hard to believe that anyone was that good.

@seawolf totally get it. As bad as my hometown team is, I have a hard time supporting. Shoot, Atlanta United is doing just as poorly. Leeds my chosen non-American team, is down in the Championship fighting the good fight to get promoted back to the PL.

@seawolf like the article @Alex posted says, it’s super complicated and it’s more than a little politically motivated by the traditional powers (who amassed their fortunes before the rules came in), and those with a vested interest in the Premier League as a brand.

That’s my view anyway, others may (and probably will) disagree.

Pick a team you have a decent change to visit and get tickets to. Smaller London clubs for example are great: fulham, brentford, luton.

Maybe Betis or Sevilla from laliga. And as a newcomer RedBull teams are good and trollish options Salzburg or Leipzig. Personally I would skipp Serie A.

If you want the best club then Arsenal obviously

@seawolf Agreed, I watched the documentary and I think it was the best sports doc ive ever seen, must have been amazing to be a fan of them at that time.

@AdamC @seawolf totally agree re the doc if it’s The Last Dance you are referring to.

As a fellow Manchester United fan, Roy Keane is the closest I’ve seen to Jordan in sheer will to win. He dragged that team over the line so many times. What I would give to have a player like him in the current team.

I think when it comes to picking a team you also need to think about location. A lot of the teams already mentioned have grounds in very busy Cities. Whereas my recommendation is located in a cosy little town with super friendly locals who will be happy to chat with you about local customs and the heritage of the area.
The followers known affectionately as Smoggies are known far & wide for their compassion and unique all-welcoming approach to away fans.
The ground itself is situated by a beautiful river, in sight of the most historic bridge in the UK.
Anyway, enough of the PR, the only club you should be following is the mighty Middlesbrough Football Club, nick named the Boro.
West Ham and Celtic are also good teams.

                              My contribution, to urban blues…

@IH-GARY having been an away fan at both Middlesbrough and West Ham, I’m not sure ‘friendly locals’ is the first thing that springs to mind😂

Great shout about Celtic though. Fantastic support with the best atmosphere I’ve ever experienced on European football nights.

@IrishHeart To be fair I am a little Boro biased as I was born in Teesside and grew up there so will always be Smoggie at heart but I lived in Glasgow for 12 years so got quite fond of Celtic. I lived close to Park Head and match days were a sight to behold and the atmosphere in the City around an old firm game was incredible.

@IH-GARY I did have a soft spot for Boro when my all time hero, Bryan Robson was there.

I have been to several OF matches including cup finals. There is nothing in England to compare, although not as good now that they don’t allow away support at the games.

Sorry, I’m the opposite with Boro, or the Leicester of the North East (trying to find a spare place in an actual local rivalry).

I may be biased though as someone tried to stab me there when I was teenager 😅
