        Haha. Love this convo!!
Well, I ask because I’m looking at a pair of grail to me XHSbb in 555 that should have started at 16.2 in the rear rise but now are at 15 after a soak. Love me a higher rise and wondering if they’ll make their way back to that 16 inches with wear.

I think an inch of rise stretch is unlikely. There’s not as much strain on that axis as the waist, and it’s a felled seam. You could invent some sort of hack like the car jack waist stretching system seen elsewhere on the forum, but rise isn’t a circle so some engineering chops would be necessary.

An inch of shrinkage in the rise sounds a little off to me. It’s possible the measurement could be wrong or done slightly differently than recommended. If all the other measurements are in line I’d have to assume the rise would be fine. I have literally never considered or taken a rose measurement. In my experience if the waist and the thighs are ok than everything else fails into place. But as ever, my word is pure conjecture.

I've never measured the stretch/shrink of my IH pants, but I will say that I do feel like the rise in my jeans gives some with wear. It might be the thigh giving more stretch though, and it is that which allows me to hike a worn-in-and-not-recently-washed pair up a little higher than a new-or-newly-washed pair.

Question: Mrs H is on the hunt for some leather sandals. She's fed up of spending ~£20-30 on cheap sandals on the high street that die after a couple of months of wear in the summer.

Preferably repairable, but if they're hard wearing enough then that's not essential. She almost bought a pair from Jerusalem Sandals (this pair specifically: https://jerusalemsandals.com/products/copy-of-elan-buckle-black?variant=42901686321406) but baulked at the shipping fee, which was almost as much as the sandal itself. She likes having the strap around the back of the ankle, otherwise the OGL crossover flip-flops would have worked. Not essential, but she likes how my pair of OGL flip-flops, in the natural colourway, have developed a unique patina.

Anyone got any recommendations for brands/makers she could check out?

No personal experience of their womens shoes or sandals in general, but I’ve been happy their mens shoes and I’ve seen these on their marketing emails.

@Alex If a material has a minimum run (like 1 full shift or a certain amount of yards), how do the cuffs and hems get woven for sweatshirt/sweatpants? Are they run on a different machine, or is the same machine altered for the cuff material?

Also, has it been discussed to add any elasticity to the cuffs of sweatshirts? They come out of the wash with the perfect tightness (sweatshirt cuff), but they stretch upon wear especially if I pull the sleeves up on the forearms, and then they stay stretched and can fall down on the hands and over the watch.

@jordanscollected I truly don't know the answer to your question, but I presume that the sweat fabric is loomed like any other, then sent to a factory to be sewn into garments. At that point, the ribbed cuffs would be sewn and attached to the sleeves. Sorry, I cannot be more useful, I have not been to the factory that makes our sweats, nor seen the fabric being woven.

And, no, that is not something that we have considered. I do understand you're issue, and I guess this is on something like the 1501s, but were designed to be worn as base layers, so I suspect the tight cuff is a design feature, rather than a 'flaw'.

Can confirm that this also happens with my 1301 and can be annoying if worn as the main layer rather than as a base layer.

@jordanscollected @cityofdelusion Isn't the cuff thing because IH tops are pure cotton with no elastic? So once the cuff is stretched out, it mostly retains that stretch until you next wash it.

Personally I prefer the pure-cotton IH cuffs for the longevity (compared to an elasticated cuff) but I have experienced this issue with the cuffs not returning to your wrist size if you've pulled them up your forearms and know what you're talking about.

@EdH thats exactly the reason. 100% pure cotton. I started my “nice quality sweatshirt” journey with American Giant. I like the fabric of the Iron Heart more, but I wish there was some elastic in the cuffs like the AG. I want them to spring back into shape.
