@endo fantastic views. My neighbor grew up in Mauritius and talks fondly of it. Would love to travel there sometime.

Finally got my film developed from my last little hiking trip over in AZ and UT. Did not expect to get hit with "blizzard conditions." Nonetheless, it made for quite an adventure and stunning views.

As a Norwegian I may be biased, but Lofoten is stunning. Perfect for hiking, and the scenery is hard to beat.

The first three photos are not mine, but here's a view from the porch of the house we rented:

Were out fishing one day, got a bit lucky and had eagles above us and a group of killer whales nearby.

@JunkPants you have a beautiful country, I’ve never visited but Lofoten looks amazing. I’d love to visit, seeing killer whales must’ve been incredible.

@jerkules Thanks, that really was quite a sight. I've been around most parts of the country (but certainly not all) and I'd say that if you ever visit Norway, Lofoten would be my number one recommendation. Mountain peaks bursting out of the ocean like gothic cathedrals.

100% agree with @JunkPants on the beauty of the Lofoten (not so much for food, and the weather can be fickle 😁).

A good alternative @AdamC might be the Alps. Still, for me one of the most impressive mountain ranges in the world.

e.g. fly to Munich, train to and hotel in/ near Berchtesgarden, losts of great hikes around the Königssee, bavarian food and beer. @weftyarn might know alternative destinations to reach from Munich.

or, fly to Insbruck or Verona, take train (or here maybe better a rental car) to Bozen and then east into the Dolomites, stunning, plus tirolean and italian food and wine.

or, easy version, from Verona to Lake Garda, more warmth and good food/wine, nice and easy hikes

or, or, or … man, you have to stop me, can I come with you?

I neatly skipped over the food part 😁 (although there's certainly some decent seafood to be had during the summer months).

True about the weather as well, we were very lucky when we were there.

Easy access to the Alps by plane:
                                        Innsbruck, Salzburg in Austria
                                        Geneva and Zürich in Swiss
And for Italy I tried Bozen once…

I would go with Endo and mention the Dolomites/Italy first.
Beatiful mountain scenarios, easy walks, a lot of cableways in the summer and the food is glorious. Villnöss is a pearl.

One of the most impressive views in the alps you can get in Swiss. All the names you know fullfill, even when hypertouristic. I recommend Grindelwald.

All in one package for a long weekend in France: Chamonix with the beatiful Aiguille du midi . Airport Geneva and then 88km via train.
